PISSED OFF FAN- stop this series-rich boy mafia 5 By Amazon Customer okay now I have to wait until book 6 to feel some type of way when it could have been a good ending at 5. first the editing was a mistake-words slamming together on every line, next the idea of reading 1-4 cheating drug dealers, chicks taking them back, breaking up making up blah blah with the adults is happening again with the kids (WHAT THA F#CK) I don't want to feel like I read a series for nothing this is why I stated in the last post about your work that after this series I am done. now the price of the book -which stop at 75% (WHAT THA F#CK AGAIN) is bull and then you put another book in it as if we didn't read that already come on now. YOU EITHER TAKE YOUR TIME OR STOP BRINGING OUT BULL SH#T CAUSE YOU KNOW YOU HAVE A FAN BASE BECAUSE SWEETIE PRETTY SOON THIS FAN BASE WOULD BE GONE MAYBE THAN YOU WOULD TAKE YOUR TIME WHEN IT COMES TO WRITING. All I know is you can never say I am a hater because I have been following your work since day one and instead of your writing getting better its now becoming RUSHED RUSHED RUSHED lately it seems like everything under LEO SULLIVAN AND EVEN HIS SUB COMPANIES is becoming RUSHED. now I'm guessing I would have to wait until part 6 comes out to finally finish this series when if you would have took your time it could have ended at 5. I under stand you want your money but make me feel good about spending my hard earned money instead of feeling like I'm always getting cheated when it comes to your work. the idea of the kids was nice but you forgot that the ending with 4 still is left unanswered? I know you made a "summary" in the beginning about everything (or tried to) but that didn't work. now I'm not sure how you would take this but I'm hoping it's with a open mind PLEASE FOR THE SAKE OF MY HARD EARNED MONEY TAKE YOUR DAMN TIME WITH THE NEXT BOOK AND BOOKS AFTER THIS. AS I STATED I BELIEVE I AM WASHING MY HANDS WITH YOU AFTER THIS SERIES IS OVER. PISSED OFF FAN THAT I AM

I usually don't write many reviews but this had me please. 1st too many characters thrown at you at once. Then the story went so fast you didnt give us a chance to connect with the characters. It seems everybody was in love with childhood friend and getting pregnant. Differentiate between the relationships they all had the same storyline. This book was rushed and had repeated sections throughout the book...we get it she is not CJ mother. I will not be reading part 6...write a new book and focus on quality not quantity

6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. so over this series By Amazon Customer I use to be a fan of demettrea, but lately it just seems like she has been putting out a bunch of mediocre books, this book just seemed rushed and had so many inconsistencies and very bad editorial problems, and what was the point of stopping the book early to give us another summary of I fell in love with a stripper, we got that at the end of black scorpion, I just really wish you had that spunk from when you first started this series I'm over it, the girls are following in the footsteps of their parents, dating drug dealer, getting pregnant, accepting cheaters and the children they have with their side bitches I mean come on now break the cycle

In 1967 a young American sculptor and his family booked passage on a freight ship and moved to Greece, long before there was a European Union or Euros and the drachma was still the currency. This is the story of the family’s pivotal years first in the mountain villages of the Peloponnesus and then on the island of Paros in the Cyclades. The rural Greeks embraced the family and the family embraced the Greeks’ simple way of life, with hilarious and harrowing moments along the way. Life was so basic everyone knew how many jars they owned because each one had its use, and your food was local because there was only one boat delivery a week. The family learned such things as why it was a scandal that the mayor of Kalamata had no ears, what Cross-Eyed Nikos did on his day off, how to kill an octopus, and how to celebrate a Name Day. The Greeks knew how to work hard and celebrate wholeheartedly. Not a wealthy country, Greece was very rich not just in history but in daily enjoyment of life.

I love the short chapters - so easy to read and flows nicely. I've been reading it on my boat and can't wait to set sail for the island! Her descriptions of the people and land make you want to jump on a plane and meet them and see the scenery in person. I was sad to have the book end and will keep it to read again.

In 1967, my husband and I were on an early marriage adventure, teaching school in a logging town on Vancouver Island in Canada. We thought it was a true back woods experience, and it was an unforgettable adventure, but it pales in comparison to Andrea Granahan's 2 year sojourn with her husband and two small children in rural Greece, at exactly the same time. They immersed themselves in a vastly different culture, where they would have to learn a new language, with only $900 in their pocket and no set plan, other than for her husband, David, to work on his sculpture. They went back to the basics of life while learning how to live in the moment. The Granahans started out by living in a remote mountain village, where there were no cars and little electricity. There, they quickly became a part of village life, willing to live simply and spontaneously with generous people who had little, but would gladly share whatever they had. They soon realized how much they had stepped back in time when their daughter, Heather, was reading Little House on the Prairie. They discovered that the life Laura Ingalls Wilder, born in 1867, had many more luxuries and modern devices than they had in rural Greece in 1967. Later, they would move on to a Greek island, where life was slightly more modern.Ms. Granahan describes the villagers and their life in vivid detail, from the baking and sharing of bread, to the intense sorrow and joy of Easter, where they emotionally re-enacated the resurrection and return of Jesus Christ. They also shared joyful celebrations, where wine glasses were routinely and casually shattered, by people who automatically re-clycled everything, out of necessity.During their time in Greece, the entire Granahan family took many Hobbit-like road trips, on foot, with packs on their backs, stopping to camp along the way, with no rigid time frame or set plan, always welcomed by the people they met along the way. I loved mentally sharing that adventure with them! You will, too.

Let's go Greek — again and again By Wanda Hennig I bought this book on Kindle so I could share it with my mom (she has a Kindle and can make the writing large — and made two memorable trips to Greece when in her early 60s). She's finished reading it — couldn't put it down, in fact — so I asked her to write me some thoughts on it that I could share here (she used to do book reviews). What she wrote: A delightful adventure of discovery throughout the Greek islands. I enjoyed every page and will re-read it again and again. So many weird and wonderful characters came alive on the pages and I loved the wealth of informative anecdotes about the traditions. I was also so impressed with the lifestyle of the author and her family. How they roughed it. How they set up wherever they stopped. How they tried turning the big house they stayed in, into a comfy home, only to have their efforts thwarted again and again when they were out by the Greek crone... very funny. The dancing, the plate smashing, the eccentricities of the Greeks. So much good reading. So much to entertain.

This is a book for anyone with an interest in the British Romantics. It combines humor with a straightforward rendition of the facts surrounding their lives and works. For instance, did Wordsworth really have an affair with his sister? Was Keats really gay? Is it true that Byron died fighting for Greek freedom? Were they all drug-addicted geniuses? Through the learning of a world-class scholar, this book retraces the obscure path to the truth. Along the way, there are bizarre discoveries and eccentric factoids. The book opens with a picture of Byron wearing the helmet he designed himself, based on his reading of Homer. It also includes a photograph of Shelley's jawbone, taken in the Keats-Shelley House in Rome; a portrait of Byron's dog Lyon, indirectly responsible for his Lordship's premature death; and Guido Reni's painting of St Sebastian, which Oscar Wilde took to be a portrait of Keats.Duncan Wu writes in a style that is accessible, friendly, and up-to-date with the latest scholarly findings.

30 Great Myths about the Romantics, by Duncan Wu

Review

“Wu is not a scholar who trades in faddish or modish opinion, and as its title implies, this is by its very nature an exercise in controversy and debate. The book represents a triumph of individual scholarship over what is claimed as often flawed, albeit consensual, critical opinion. Wu’s fluid, readable prose is accessible to all, and his extensive and subtle insights are a joy to read. This unique addition to the student bookshelf provides enjoyment and instruction simultaneously.” —Jane Moore, Cardiff University

From the Author First and foremost, I wanted to make a book that would entertain, amuse, and educate its readers about the world in which the Romantic writers lived and moved and had their being. It meant overturning many of my own assumptions about them, and starting from scratch, burrowing back through the reams of myths, many of which had been repeated over and over again, to reconstruct, as accurately as possible, what we actually know. The emphasis on the truth was salutary. I was forced to place a premium on first-hand testimony rather than on hearsay, and to insist that my witnesses speak from direct experience. What was shocking was the discovery that such standards are rarely, if ever, demanded by modern critics, and that in many cases I was the first person to regard with skepticism such oft-repeated lies as the idea that Byron and his half-sister had a child together or that Keats was a working-class ignoramus. I hope the result is, as I have hoped, an eye-opening (as much as an eye-watering) read, and that it encourages others to expect a high standard of accuracy from biographers, critics, and scholars.

From the Back Cover Author Duncan Wu's goal is twofold: to correct some of the biases and misconceptions about the Romantics that have crept into modern critical discussion and to celebrate the mythic concepts, characters and objects that have passed down from the Romantics into contemporary culture (from Blake's Jerusalem and the person from Porlock to Shelley's elusive heart). Brimming with the foibles, follies, and eccentricities of the greatest writers in literary history, 30 Great Myths About the Romantics brings clarity to what we know - or think we know - about one of the most important periods in literary history.

2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Remarkably fresh perspectives By Thomas Mann For those of us with an interest in the British Romantics this book is a real eye-opener. Duncan Wu clears out so much dead wood in the prevailing scholarship regarding Byron, Shelley, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Hazlitt, Keats, and their contemporaries that his slim volume culls enough tinder for a bonfire. “The biggest myth of all might be that the Romantics invented Romanticism in 1798, practiced it until 1830, and then died,” he writes, and, “What we call Romantic might more accurately be called Regency Wartime Literature, were we to backdate the Regency, as some historians do, to 1788.” Commentators since the late 1800s have imposed so many filters on our perceptions of the early 1800s that it is very difficult for us now to see these writers as they saw themselves, in the very different context of their own time. The best-selling poets of those decades, for example, were not the above writers (save Byron); their roster included the little-remembered Samuel Rogers, Thomas Campbell, Thomas Moore, and Robert Pollack. Amelia Opie’s Poems and Charlotte Smith’s Beachy Head both outsold Lyrical Ballads. The widespread assumption today that “the Romantics” saw themselves in opposition to “the Augustans” in general (or Pope in particular) is belied by the complexity of beliefs voiced by Byron, Wordsworth, and Hazlitt themselves. Time after time Professor Wu finds that received “truths” about these writers are in fact half-truths, quarter-truths, dubiously-sourced assertions, out-of-context attributions, uncritical acceptances of self-serving posturings, later re-castings of motivations not present at the time, or outright fictions. The latter, Wu documents, are frequently generated in the present hot-house atmosphere of pop-psychoanalyzing on matters of suppression, transgression, and sexual orientation, exemplifying, in Wu’s elegant phrase, a “readiness to impose upon the evidence interpretive grids designed to illustrate pre-existing agendas.” I think Hazlitt, were he around today, would relish this book: it gives us a fresh perspective “untrammeled” by the “prejudices” so characteristic of the spirit of our own age.

Are you a self-confessed horror freak? Are there few things you love better than a good horror story to tell around a campfire or at parties? Let's face it, ghost stories make for great conversation topics. A little macabre, sure, but entertaining nevertheless. It is often difficult to explain what lives in the beyond, why certain paranormal activities take place the way they do, cold spots, mysterious happenings and the likes. It does not matter if you think ghosts are real or just a figment of someone’s imagination. Everyone believes in a good horror story if it is spooky enough. Strange happenings have occurred across the globe that there is no possible explanation for, things that are outside the reach of scientific clauses and reasoning. Apparitions, noises and EVP readings are things that point to the unknown, telling us it exists, yet science cannot provide a reasonable explanation as to why it might be true. Make sure you check for monsters under your bed, say a silent prayer before you go to bed and be wary of what lays in the dark, for this book compiles the spookiest, most eerie true horror stories of all time!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. An Entertaining Grab Bag of "True Ghost Stories" By will5967 In case you hadn't already noticed, there are a whole lot of books that bear the ominous epitaph, "True Ghost Stories." This particular version by Jason Keeler probably isn't among the cream of the macabre crop of similarly titled volumes, but it's definitely a fun read nonetheless. Still, if you're as much of a regular reader of fact based paranormal tales as I most definitely am, then there really isn't anything particularly hair-raising to keep you awake at night with this one.Yet thankfully, the author's overall approach to the subject matter is not without merit - in that he seems to have tried harder than most to include a wider variety of creepy content than one usually finds in this type of book. Plus, he seems to have thoroughly enjoyed adding his own lighthearted brand of cheeky commentary at the end of many of his essays. Quite personable of him, of course, but perhaps also not all that necessary (or arguably well suited to the subject matter) either. Many readers will undoubtedly enjoy this aspect of Keeler's writing however, so no real harm done, one might very well argue.Although Mr. Keeler does cite more than a few famous and perhaps far too oft told cases (such as the haunting of the Waverly Hills Sanitorium, Bachelor's Grove Cemetery, the Lemp Mansion, and even the well worn urban legend of "Resurrection Mary"), he also takes the reader on a surprisingly wide ranging route to various locales around the world, to places like Mexico, Singapore, Japan, and even Lithuania. And "dear Old Blighty" (aka the U.K.) too, of course. Because who could possibly write a properly scary or truly comprehensive compendium of frightful manifestations without mentioning much haunted Great Britain, and just a fraction of her infamously bountiful ghostly tales? The only real problem with all of the above is that quite a few of the "stories" the author chose to include in his chilling collection aren't really what you'd call stories at all. In fact, much of this all too slim volume reads like a reference or tour guide book for run of the mill paranormal thrill seekers. As a result, many of the entries do little more than list a given place and the specific phenomenon associated with it, without offering all that much in the way of adequately researched detail. The book still manages to be plenty entertaining though, and the author really does write reasonably well in most cases. This despite the fact that Jason Keeler's true ghost stories suffer from the usual, hastily published eBook style, poorly edited grammar and syntactic errors, of course. And it's not just the sometimes oddly worded sentences or the punctuation errors, but the fact that a well known haunted residence like the Myrtles Plantation is repeatedly referred to as "the Myrtle Plantation."Okay, so the omission of a few lousy letter Ss isn't a major crime against paranormal literature in general or anything, but one would expect an author who's supposed to be well enough versed in his chosen subject matter to write a whole book about it, to actually be able to at least double check details of that nature BEFORE the manuscript is eventually declared final! But... what can I say? I'm definitely a sucker for just about any half way well composed collection of honest to goodness "True Ghost Stories," so color me more or less satisfied with Jason Keeler's take on this time honored literary tradition.

By Nicole Tinson As a fan of paranormal stories I can say that this book covers some of the scariest places on Earth in a good way, but it is too short and it lacks more details. Before I have read about the Waverly Hills Sanatorium and I saw documentaries about the Aokigahara Forest, better known as the ‘’Suicide Forest’’ in Japan. This book covers these stories in a good but really short way. I didn’t know about the Epping Forest, the Island of the Dolls in Mexico, the Dyatlov pass incident and the rest of the stories described by the author, so it was interesting to have an overview about them to keep searching for more details.

Excerpt from Concerning ChildrenAccording to our religious belief, the last best work of God is the human race. According to the observation of biologists, the highest product of evolution is the human race. According to our own natural inner conviction, this twofold testimony is quite acceptable: we are the first class.Whatever our merits when compared with lower species, however, we vary conspicuously when compared with one another. Humanity is superior to equinity, felinity, caninity; but there are degrees of humanness.Between existing nations there is marked difference in the qualities we call human; and history shows us a long line of advance in these qualities in the same nation. The human race is still in the making, is by no means done; and, however noble it is to be human, it will be nobler to be humaner.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Concerning Children (Classic Reprint), by Charlotte Perkins Gilman

About the Author Charlotte Perkins Gilman was an American sociologist, writer, lecturer, and social reformist. As a child, Gilman was often in the presence of her father s relatives, notably Isabella Beecher Hooker, a well-known suffragist, and Harriet Beecher Stowe, an abolitionist and author of Uncle Tom s Cabin. Many of Gilman s own works reflect similarly feminist and social reformist perspectives, and in 1909 she established The Forerunner, a magazine that acted as a forum for discussion of these issues. Gilman s most famous work is The Yellow Wallpaper, a semi-autobiographical short story written in response to being put on rest cure by a doctor to cure her depression. Gilman s works also include the poetry collection In This Our World, and the feminist texts Women and Economics and The Home: Its Work and Influence. She died in 1935.

This is a COMPLETE novel, NO cliffhangers! To me, Billionaire Business Tycoon Spencer Lawson was beautiful. Perfect. My secret crush. But to him, I was probably just “Jenna the Maid”. The hired help who cleaned his Manhattan penthouse, did his laundry and cleaned up after all of the many women he had stay over. In fact, I doubt he even knew my name since he actually never said a word to me. But then one day everything changed... As I cleaned his apartment, I caught him checking me out. He then caught me checking him out. And before I knew it, we were both indulging in flirty banter. One thing soon led to another and from that point on, we both knew our relationship as we knew it was about to take on a whole new meaning... This is a sweet full length BWWM Romance novel that is sure to surprise you with the many twists and turns. Jenna, an unlikable know it all meets whatever his name was because I have already forgotten- and the silly arguments fly. Ms. Legend wants her characters to banter but they just have stilted arguments that are boring and just reinforce how immature Jenna is. Jenna should have 'too stupid to be believed' tattooed across her face. None of the characters speak naturally. You can skip all the description and just read the dialogue and save yourself some time. When the hero dumps her, I wanted the book to end right there. I actually might have given it another half star if it had ended right there. Oh, and the sex was terrible.

The theme of billionaire + "hired help" wasn't new but it wasn't new but it wasn't the worst aspect of the story for me. The writing was chopping and switched tense very often. Inner dialogue was presented instead of actually showing the reader character actions to move the story forward. This seemed like a cop out. The editing was also inconsistent with missing quotation marks and dialogue breaks where characters were still speaking. Not a bad story but nothing stands out enough to make up for the grammar and (inner) dialogue.

A great read By Nutnut 1 I really enjoyed this book Jenna was for her age strong loyal and hardworking, I loved the fact she was forthright and didn’t cower just because he had money. It was refreshing also that part way through the book she did sot of lose herself in the past and tried to do what she thought was best. Sometimes what is best for someone else is not best for you I love that her best friend was a real person jealous envious but still a friend, (would love her to get her own story)Spencer was charming and confident that’s the image you get he the fact he was somewhat inept when he came to dealing with anything, deeper than a one night stand was refreshing . Spencer was used to things be uncomplicated and was unused to dealing with emotions so sometimes lashed out before thinking things through,I liked the way they grew together each one learning something from the other, this was a delight to read. A sequel would be great for this book to see them navigate through the press and Leon’s meddling.

This is a BWWM standalone novel. Sloane Paris grew up in dysfunction. With no one to protect them or help them, Sloane and her siblings survived the best way they could; until they could get out from the hell hole they called home. For Sloane, her escape was college, followed by a successful career that she worked very hard for. She left little to no room for love. In fact, she made it a rule to never let a man get close enough for her to fall in love. However, a chance meeting with a handsome stranger would make her reconsider that rule. Luca Santorini is a successful businessman with a thriving business. He comes from a large, loving family that is the complete opposite of Sloane’s. Family meant the world to him, and he hoped to have one of his own one day. He had been meeting with new financial advisors on his retired father’s behalf, and he had the task of choosing which firm he would sign with. Before the meeting, he saw a woman in a coffee shop that intrigued him from just seeing her big beautiful eyes and amazing smile. All he knew was that her name was Sloane and that he would never forget her name or those eyes. Call it fate, but their paths crossed again, and this time Luca wasn’t going to let Sloane Paris just slip away. Luca quickly found out that he had his work cut out for him, but he felt Sloane was more than worth it. While getting to know one another, Sloane managed to do something no other woman has been able to do - she won Luca’s heart. Luca was still trying to win hers, but he wanted more than her heart. Luca wanted to know who or what was the cause of the constant sadness in Sloane’s eyes so he could do everything in his power to put an end to it. He wanted Sloane to trust him enough to share with him her deep, dark secrets, but will Luca be able to handle it once she opens up to him? Will he be able to break through Sloane’s emotional walls and help her let go of the pain she lived and accept the love she’s found with him?

Pain Lived, Love Found, by Thalia Lake

About the Author Thalia Lake was born and raised in the midwest into a big family. She discovered her love of writing at the age of 9 and have been writing ever since. A bleeding heart romantic to the core, she loves writing and reading romantic novels that focuses on the emotional side of falling in love. To her, there’s no greater joy than exploring the process of two people meeting and falling in love, willingly or unwillingly, which ultimately proves that you can’t always control who you fall in love with. She became drawn to interracial romance stories in high school during a time when there weren’t many interracial romance books in libraries or bookstores that dealt with a black woman and white man falling in love. Her interest in the subject and the emotional intricacies that go with being in an interracial relationship is what moved her to write about it. Thalia is happily married to a wonderful man with whom she has four beautiful children with. Outside of writing, she enjoys spending time with her family, watching and playing sports, baking, reading, and listening to music.

15 of 18 people found the following review helpful. A story that reflects real life issues! By Mspraise1 This is my first book by author Thalia Lake but it will not be my last and this morning I clicked her first book Choosey Lovers because she blew me away with this book. This story for me was just a vehicle to present real life issues that are alive and kicking. This review will be more of a testimony and validation to the story that Author Thalia tells and to allow her to know that these themes are happening in women’s lives in truth, as I am sure she is already aware. The story is about Sloane Paris and her dysfunctional family and the pain and destruction that their dysfunction brings to all their lives. Then Sloane finds love and she is truly able to move on with her life.As the author was laying the foundation for this story and explaining to us about the pain in Sloane’s life, I found that the story was literally speaking to me and touching my heart. It was ministering to some issues that I have long believed. I was only 50% into the story at this point but it was so powerful to me!! I have enjoyed reading a lot of stories. However, there are some reads that are not stories to me but real life. This book is one those! As many women from my generation as possible (1960s) should read this story and examine/reflect on their lives growing up and make sure that we do not make the same mistakes as our mothers made. Mothers are the nucleus of the family and if we get it wrong, we can do so much damage. This part of the story was really shouting to me! If this book never speaks to anyone else Author Thalia, it spoke to me LOUD AND CLEAR! The tears were silently slipping down my cheeks as the story revealed/exposed and mirrored back my own life story.Coming from a Caribbean background this story is mine and many of my friends' reality too. I did not experience sexual abuse I did encounter, physical, mental and emotional abuse. I experienced this under the guise of “spare the rod and spoil the child” a corner stone in the background I grew up in. The abuse I suffered was not done out of cruelty but out of good intentions to raise me right! However, the results and impact were the same as in the Paris Family damaged/broken/wounded children. Regardless of the motivation the results are the same!!As women we do not talk about these themes enough. We do not challenge what happened to us, once we have grown into adult women. Therefore we allow the abuses in their many forms to continue. I personally challenged both my parents but my Mother in particular about her role, in allowing certain behaviours to be perpetrated against us as her children. The conversations with my parents were very difficult because they did not want to own it! If they owned what they did to us, then that would mean acknowledging that harm was done and that overwhelmed them. However, they were able to admit that they would not like me to pass on to my children what they did to me. The scales fell off my eyes and I was able to break the cycle of dysfunction and not pass it on to my family.I too married outside my race and therefore this was not such an issue because my husband did not have this dysfunction in his background. Nonetheless, I still gave my husband some boundaries that he should never cross, since I took my role as wife/mother and the influence/power that this role has in the family, very seriously. I wanted there to be no doubt as to what was acceptable and what was not. This does not mean that we do not correct our children when they are wrong but we administer the punishment which fits the crime and we do it in love and not anger!I have longed believed that if Mothers played their rightful roles in their families and protected their children from the actions of their partners/spouses some of the damaged/wounded individuals we have in the world today would not be broken in this way and thus not pass on their brokenness to future generations.Although, I was able to forgive my parents with the help of God, my faith in him and other women who shared a similar experience to mine, I totally hold my Mother responsible/accountable for what happened to me as a child. I wish I had gotten professional help for my mental/emotional abuse in particular when I was a young woman. Back then this would have brought shame, disgrace and attention to the fact that there was something wrong with me, which in turn would bring attention to my family, which was not allowed.God had a plan for my life and I met a man who was able to love me with all my rough edges, who did not expect me to pretend to be someone who I was not and loved me for me warts and all. Just like Luca did for Sloane. To me an alpha male is not someone who commands/dominants you, it is a man who is strong enough to love you when you push back, get angry about issues that has nothing to do with him, who is patient, kind, tender, loving when you are acting out and never mishandles you or puts angry hands on you or demeans you in any way. That is what an alpha male means to me and thank God he gave me one of those!Author Thalia, I know this review is long and even if no one else takes the time or patience to read it all the way through, I hope you do because I want to validate your story as being my story.Thank you for having the courage and boldness, to write this story, which is the story of many black women that I know and could be the same story for many women not of colour also. I broke the cycle in my life with no outside help but I hope many other women after reading your book will break the cycle in theirs and get any help they may need.Your book ministered to my broken/wounded/healed soul and validated my stance as a wife and mother in my own family unit. I recognise my role and will not shrink back from it. I stopped the cycle of damaged/broken people in my life.I would highly recommend that all women read this book!

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Wow! By Bludevil This book was recommended to me by a member of my Facebook book club and I am so happy she did! This book brought all my emotions to the forefront; the tears I shed while reading this story could fill a bucket! The dysfunction is so prevalent in many families; we just try to hide our head in the sand about all the mental and physical abuse because for generations, that's how we survived it.....by SUPREME DENIAL!I love Luca and how supportive he and his family were to Sloane; Mama Anna is the mother in law I WISHED I had!I will definitely be following this author's work!

13 of 17 people found the following review helpful. Standing Ovation, Thalia Lake........Standing O!! By Barkbad OMG!!!! I am so feaking happy right now, guys!!! I'm amazed. I'm shocked. I'm speechless. My joy of reading is finally coming back! As you can see from my reviews,I'm an interracial romance (BW.....M but BW is a must - no apologies) FANATIC!!! At one point, I was knocking out 3/4 books a week - not free reads but books I actually paid for. Reading those books were my favorite hobby, and I so enjoyed it! But something happened this year - it wasn't giving me that enjoyment anymore. I hit a serious IR romance block. I have a list of about eight (8) authors that are one click buys, but some of those authors don't publish on a regular basis. Also, some of those author have series books out, and I refuse to commit to such books. I read a great IR vampire romance three (3) years ago, and I'm still waiting for part 2 of that book. I can't do that to myself again; I will wait until the series conclude and buy all the books. And a lot of my "dependable" authors stop being dependable, so I just stopped checking for their books. And of course the roll-my-eyes books.....you know the ones I speak of; How to marry a Billionaire, the 25 pages for .99 cents, the 69 pages for $2.99, and of course those crappy free reads. So I went from reading 3/4 books a week to maybe 3 books a month. However, somehing happened in the past month or two: I decided to make a real effort to give new authors a chance, with the help of you reviewers, of course. And my joy of reading is returning - thanks guys!!!! This is my first book by this author, and she hit a freaking homerun!!!!! This story was phenomenal!!!!!! And a don't use that "p" word often. Seriously, this is an amazing read!!!!! Luca and Sloane are going on my all time favorite couple list!!! This is how I like my IR romances - a committed couple with the right amount of drama from outside forces.....but my couple HAS to stay together. I can take over the top drama as long as the couple rides it out together......I don't do breakups. And the side characters, even the beyond evil ones, brought this story together!!!!! I didn't want this book to end. And although it was one of my free reads, I'm buying it......I can't say goodbye forever to Luca and Sloane - such a dynamic couple!!!!!! I have to re-read their story when the mood hits!Buy this book you guys!! Trust all the stellar reviews! I really wish Amazon would allow 0 - 10 stars because this book deserves so much more than 5 stars. Standing ovation, Thalia Lake .......Standing O!!!!!!!!!I struggled with whether or not I wanted to write this, but here goes. I actually would like to see a romance for Sarah. I still feel some kinda way about her.....I was beyond disgusted at her actions, but I know there is something beneath it all. There was something horrific that set Sarah on her destructive path. I would like to know more about her, and although it would be difficult to make her into a likeable heroine after reading this story, I know you have the talent to make this happen, Thalia. I understand that Sarah is probably in her late 30s, maybe even late 40s, but that's still young enough in my book for an epic romance! And please keep with the IR theme because that's all I read. Thanks in advance, Thalia! And again, job well done on this story!!!!! I'm about to start "Choosey Lovers".....I'm in my "Thalia Lake" zone now! I'm impatiently waiting for your next book!!

I was very excited to receive this book and I actually ended up reading almost all of it the evening I received it in the mail. It is with great wisdom that Murray made this book so practical and short in length, because as he said, "Depressed people cannot read hundreds of pages" (xi).Though only 112 pages this book packs a punch. Murray manages to summarize various approaches to depression in Christian circles and he argues for a balanced approach that pursues humility and rejects dogmatism. I tend to agree. After pleading for humility in the midst of complexity Murray begins to address the condition of depression. He offers a very helpful ten points of false thinking, and also interacts with other symptoms. He then charts out potential causes and finally attempts to offer some help in exploring a cure. His final chapter is also very helpful, as it is directed towards those that minister to and/or live with those that battle depression. One other thing worthy of mention is Murray's Thought Inventory Questionnaire. Being introduced to this and his ten points of false thinking is certainly worth the cost of the book.I love Murray's balance and modeled humility in this book. I think this book would certainly be a helpful guide to anyone struggling with depression. I'm not 100% sure that I would go quite as far as Joel Beeke yet. Who says, "If I had a family or church member fighting depression, it is the first book I would hand out." But I have to say that it would certainly be in my top 3.This book is not meant to be a stand alone or a cure all for someone struggling with depression. But I think if a depressed person read this book they would be put on the right track at least. It's also a helpful corrective and addition to the library of any pastor.I would heartily recommend this book.

Craig David Murray admits that his book is not an exhaustive treatment on the subject of depression, but to be seen as an introduction to depression. If it were a class it would be Depression 101.As a pastor and life coach I have helped people with depression, and have personally battled depression my whole life. One of the things I really like about this book, is that it is short, sweet, and to the point. People who are battling depression don't feel like reading a long treatise on depression. In six short chapters Murray carefully and concisely writes about the (1) Crisis, (2) Complexity, (3) Condition, (4) Causes, (5) Cures, and those who (6) Care for those who are depressed. In each chapter Murray writes in a balanced manner, avoids extremes, and gives good sound biblical advice, ways to identify causes and cures of depression, through the practical use of various illustrations, examples, and solutions to help in the battle with depression.I think one of the most helpful Chapters is Chapter 5 were he gives the 5 Keys to developing a balanced lifestyle in reducing the stress and anxiety that often leads to depression: Routine, Relaxation, Recreation, Rest, and Reprioritization. I recommend this book for those who struggle with depression, and to understand those you care for who battle with depression. It is clear, concise, and communicates well the essence of where depression comes from, how to deal with it, and where to find hope for overcoming depression.

Murry is a wonderful book for those suffering with depression or those who know someone who is. Pastor Murry has done a wonderful and thoughtful investigation into the difficult subject of depression. He comes at depression from a well balanced biblical perspective allowing for causes which could stem from heart, body or soul.In six chapters he discusses why we get depressed, how to study the topic of depression, what depression is and then covers different methods to deal with depression. He discusses the physical, spiritual, mental approaches which have been taken up in the past and explains the strength and weaknesses of each. In his last chapter he address caregivers (spouses, pastors, friends) and gives timely advise on how we can help those dealing with depression. This is a great resource and I am glad to have this book on my shelf.

I love how tight they were. More men should stick together like them. Loyalty is rare these days. Great story, Allen with plenty of laughs. You did that!

Long, long ago, in old Japan, there lived near Katano, in the Kawachi Province, a prince named Bitchu-no-Kami Minetaka or Lord Minetaka, as we should say in English. He was not only a very wealthy man, but it was reported that his house was full of rare and wonderful treasures. He was also a learned man and the master of many accomplishments. His life was passed in the luxurious leisure of the rich, and he knew nothing of care or want—perhaps he hardly realized what such words meant. But above all the treasures in his storehouse, beyond the wealth of his revenue which came pouring in year by year in bushels of rice, he prized his only child, his daughter. The prince and his wife brought this daughter up with great love and tenderness as if she were some rare flower or fragile butterfly. So beautiful indeed was the young girl that in looking at her their friends and relations wondered whether the Sun Goddess Amaterasu had not come to earth again in the form of the little Princess.Nothing came to mar the happiness of this united little family till the daughter was fifteen years of age. Then suddenly the mother, who had never known a day's illness in her whole life, was taken ill. At first it seemed to be but a slight cold, but her health, instead of getting better, only grew worse and worse. She felt that she would never recover and that her end was very near, so she called her daughter beside her pillow, and, taking a large lacquer bowl from the bedside, she placed it on her daughter's head, saying: "My poor little child, I want you always to wear this bowl. At your innocent age you can understand nothing of the world in which I must leave you motherless. I pity you with all my heart; ah! if you were at least seventeen or eighteen years old I could die with more peace of mind. I am indeed loath to go, leaving you behind so young. Try to be a good daughter and never forget your mother."The woman's tears fell fast as she spoke, and her voice was broken with sobs while she stroked her little girl's hand. But things are not as one wishes in this life. All the doctor's skill could not save the mother; she died and left her daughter behind motherless in the world. And the young Princess, besides sorrowing for the loss of her mother, was greatly troubled at the knowledge that, though born physically perfect, she was now quite disfigured for life in having to wear the ugly bowl which her mother for some unknown reason had placed on her head. If no one succeeded in taking the bowl off, she might have to wear it her whole life. That would indeed be a terrible affliction. But in spite of all she never forgot her mother even for a moment, but carried in her heart the memory of her love and care through every hour of the livelong day.....

By BJ Peter DeLaCruz This story is about a beautiful, 15-year-old Japanese princess who lived a very happy life with her father and mother until one day, she had to wear a large, hideous bowl on her head, which was placed on her by her mother before she died.I don't want to say anything more about what happens next. I suggest you buy this e-book and read it to find out. It's a short, touching folklore that you can finish reading in under an hour. I highly recommend it!
