Best single source for friends and family of addicted By A Customer I've read several books and online materials about substance abuse and how to help someone out of addiction. This book is the most comprehensive, considerate, simple, and useful source for friends or family members. It is more complete and helpful than the better-known cornerstone works from the Betty Ford Clinic and Dr. Vernon Johnson. Not only is the text full of information, but the charts offered at the end to help organize an intervention are most user-friendly and designed to give you a thoughtful helping hand. This one is the best investment.

Love First, a way to enter the path to recovery By Kevin Killian People who are addicted to alcohol fall into one of three categories, according to the Jays: those who know it and want help (whether consciously or unconsciously), those who don't believe it's true of themselves, even though they may be the first to spot alcoholism in others, or attribute it to them; and the third, slightly smaller group that wavers between the first two, sometimes convicted and guilty, sometimes defiant. To all three of these groups the Jays, a pair of strong advocates for recovery, urge us to love them first. I have seen my share of alcoholics who have finally seen the light and attempted sobriety, and it is very striking how what we read here (that you don't have to "hit bottom" to want to be helped) is often seen in life but seldom seen in the literature. It's always drama, drama, drama and "Days of Wine and Roses" in other recovery literature. Thus LOVE FIRST is a rather genteel approach to recovery, but I'm sure it will have an impact all across America, wherever people are honestly trying to change their ways. And, in addition, this book and the program of the Jays will bring solace to suffering families of all ages, right through the generations.

The best I've read on this subject By A Customer Whether you are a family member, a friend or a professional counsellor, this book is a "must-read" for anyone dealing with alcoholism or drug addiction. It may be painful to read, but it's so true. I am purchasing copies to share with friends. I need their support.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Well worth the wait!! By KLMNC I've been eagerly waiting for Brian's story and I must say that A Lost Heart was well worth the wait! This book tells the story of Brian Thompson and Caitlyn Montgomery. They were college sweethearts until Caitlyn mysteriously disappeared. Now it's 10 years later and Brian has been sent to Nickelsville, VA by his good friend Attorney General JD Harrison as part of his security detail to prepare for a future visit. While there he runs into Caitlyn and is determined to find out why she left him and broke his heart.Typically I don't like books in which there are flashbacks because I hate the constant jumping from present to past. A lot of times books like that end up being boring and tedious because the author fails to make the scenes transition smoothly. However, the flashback scenes were handled perfectly in this book and provided just enough of the back story to make the story flow fluently.I found myself laughing out loud several times during some of the scenes. It was also great to catch up with the characters from the earlier books as well. I agree with an earlier reviewer who commented on the author's growth as a writer which is well demonstrated in this book.I found this to be an enjoyable read and would recommend it to others.

Its practical and down to earth (haha). Blair gives some great guidance about connecting with loved ones in the afterlife. In fact Blair's email notifying his readers about this book I felt was a sign for me, it felt important for me to read this book ASAP as a dear friend has recently passed away. As a Spiritual Healer I am fine having other people's loved ones come to me but I am cautious when it comes to my own life. Blair's book has helped me to relieve some of this anxiety. I felt very much wrapped in Love as I was reading this book.

Even without reading the first installment I understood the background stories of all of the characters and could follow the story easily. Mitchell's characters are realistic and intriguing. The story is interesting and readers can easily relate to many of its themes. And, man, can this woman write up some serious drama and keep it up! I am now finishing up editing the first book before it's printed in paperback. It's great to see how the story began, knowing where the characters have already gone. This book is for anyone, but especially those whose lives are affected by addiction, trauma, and the ability and belief to overcome those things.

I said I was going to read a chapter and then walk my maltese...Yeah, Joy & Coco didn't walk yesterday, I just let them in the yard.I was unable to put my Kindle down for 3 hours. The story flowed seamlessly from part 1 and BOY, what a page-turner! I'm still annoyed with Meena but I'll give no spoilers. Typically I dislike multi-part stories but I could read and reread this one a thousand times.If I could give more than 5 stars would! Perfect example of an already talented author sharpening and honing her craft even further. I advise any aspiring author o take now of just how well this is written, edited, and presented.

If you are not a fan of Chuck watch the series and read 1.0 & 2.0! Seriously, I've rarely enjoyed a book as much as this one, because it reminds me of everything about Chuck that I miss. Memories of funny scenes, romance, action and great episodes from a wonderful group of people that brought the show to me and others. At the same time it brings new information through observation of the text of the show and analysis. It gives hope for completing the story as well as a telling of new adventures. As a fan Chuck I think that is what most of us fans want. Viva La Buymoria!

By sue4idaho For anyone who has watched or is currently in the process of REwatching the TV show "Chuck", "Chuck Unpacked 2.0" is the book for you! (WARNING! The entire book is filled with spoilers. If you have not yet finished the show or care if you learn the ending ahead of time, please wait to grab this one after you have finished the series run) This is the second tome in a series of two that sorts through the subtleties and nuances that even the most avid of fans might have missed while viewing the show. I personally enjoyed how the author sites the use of props and music that the producers of the show used to enhance the poignancy of each scene. Some of the examples I caught myself and others were instances that even I (as observant and reflective as I am) didn't notice. I would definitely suggest reading the first "Chuck Unpacked" volume first, however to get a more flowing literary experience. Loved it. There is one caveat , IMHO. If you are a huge fan of the character "Chuck" you may feel that the author should write a third book concentrating on him specifically as these two current novels lean heavily on "Sarah" and the other characters in the Chuck universe. That aside, it is well written, thought provoking and well worth purchasing :-D

About the Author

Catherine Ford Sori, PhD, LMFT, is professor in the division of psychology and counseling at Governors State University, where she is also leader of the marriage and family track. She has won numerous faculty excellence awards, and is the mental health consultant for the Early Head Start Program at the Family Development Center. Dr. Sori is also associate faculty at the Chicago Center for Family Health, an affiliate of the University of Chicago. She is a clinical fellow and AAMFT-approved supervisor, and is a member of APT and ACA.

Lorna L. Hecker, PhD, is faculty in the marriage and family therapy program in the department of behavioral sciences at Purdue University–Calumet in Hammond, Indiana. She is a licensed marriage and family therapist, certified in healthcare privacy and security (CHPS) and a clinical fellow and AAMFT-approved supervisor. She is also the director of the Purdue University Calumet Couple and Family Therapy Center.

Molli E. Bachenberg, MA, NCC, is assistant professor at Florida Gulf Coast University. Her areas of research and specialty include addressing sexual issues in training and counseling, and using playful techniques when working with adolescents and children, especially in sex-related topics.
