By Yusef Stanley Growing up as a African-America Christian; throughout my childhood years in sunday school and church I wondered why everyone in the bible was white. I wondered why in sunday school our bible coloring lessons we always needed a white or yellow crayon and not a brown crayon. I wondered why the pastor always called us "Gentiles". I remember watching the "Ten Commandments" and seeing a white Moses and white Israelites. "Hebrews to Negroes" has shaken the foundation of everything I have been taught for 40 years. I always felt inside that black people in America were "God's Chosen People" from reading the Bible, especially in Deuteronomy 28:16-68. In Deuteronomy 28 it describes the Curses of Israel and it only fits what blacks have gone through for what seems to be an eternity. Daniel 9:9-15 proves that the Children of Israel DID in fact disobey Gods commandments. Therefore they STILL should be going through the Curses of Israel. This Book proves without a shadow of a doubt that the REAL biblical Israelites were Black (People of Color) and not the European Ashkenazi or European Sephardic Jews we see today in America, Europe and Israel. There is no way that Black Jews make up 1% of all the Jews worldwide. Thank you so much for putting this book out. This book HANDS DOWN lays to rest all those (European Jews, Catholics, Muslims) who teach and believe that real Jews are white. This book put chills in my spine and made me realize how much Black America has been tricked and deceived. After reading this book, I see now why It says "Wake up Black America". I am more awake now then ever and I will spread the word to others now that I have read this book.

Peak I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and recommend this book to anyone interested in learning about our history as a people, our current state, and where we are headed if we don't collectively change our ways to be obedient to God. It's a Good wake up call By Teddy3indc This book a good read of someone who has come to knowledge about the truth of an identity, and the history that has made us forget. It is a book that no doubt took a considerable amount of time to complete, and which is well written and thought out. It is a blend of a few different styles; Opinion, Persuasion, and Historical accounts with analysis. It contains the Authors personal beliefs, which make it both compelling, and honestly, challenging to read if you don't accept the same basic premises of faith.For those of you who do not take the New Testament in a high regard, as you question the validity of all of it or most of it, this book is not entirely for you. However, if you want to understand the perspective of those who accept a Messianic return, and you want to know the evidences provided for faith in the concept, then this book will enlighten you.I respect the brother for his opinions and views. I disagree with many of the assertions, mostly based on the ideology of the Christ/Messiah and the return, and those statements that are made as a matter of fact when they are opinion. But in general, I appreciated the historical analysis, and the thought that it took to write the book.I believe that this is a good book for those that are just now coming to knowledge, and those that want to further understand the role of Israelites today. It is most specifically geared to those who are awakening from a christian perspective, and are searching for an identity. Personally, I think that the book maintains a certain level of acceptance of church doctrine promoted by the oppressors, however it is an obvious step in the right direction. I would absolutely invite the author to dinner to discuss the entirety of our differences, as I can tell that the information is well researched and reflected upon.As with any presentation of knowledge, we must question everything we all say and hold as fact, and I would impress upon the readers to verify the information presented here. I think that the best way forward in the community, is critical inquiry, and diligent study.Shalom and Blessings. We are absolutely near the end of Oppression.

Originally labeled as The Tragedy of Richard III by Shakespeare, one can see, upon reading this enthralling play, why this history/tragedy firmly entrenched itself as one of The Bard's most prolifically performed plays with almost unrivaled longevity due to its immense popularity among the genteel and yeomen alike.Although the much-maligned humpback King Richard was by no means a saint by any stretch, he was not, however, as wretchedly insidious as Shakespeare might have us believe. In an effort to pander to Queen Elizabeth, Shakespeare cast perhaps an overly morose shadow over the House of York. The play itself, interestingly enough, focuses not so much on the bloody ending of The War of Roses and the ascension to the throne of Henry VII(the grandfather of Elizabeth) as it does on the uncannily cunning connivances of Richard III. Richard's dastardly deeds, the sordid means to his end of usurping the crown, know no limits as he murders any and all who dare get in his way - and even those that don't(I suppose they're guilty by association).Inextricably, although I by no means empathize with him even remotely, Richard somehow, despite his inordinately decadent reprobate ploys, coupled with his twisted soliloquies pleading to the audience his hopeless case, make him one entirely enigmatic, yet entirely captivating, antagonist that makes this play enticingly enjoyable -- in a most devilish kind of way."O coward conscience, how dost thou afflict me!"

The main character is shown as evil but at the same time, if one can read properly and see all the details, he is the one who finally establishes the principle that the English king has to be accepted at least if not selected by the representative of the City of London, hence establishing the « constitutional » or « parliamentary » nature of the English Crown. It also establishes the fact that a bad king must give way to a good one, that it is a moral duty for everyone to fight against a bad king. We are miles away from the feudal acceptance of the king as the direct representative of God on earth and against whom all rebellion is unacceptable. The play builds up this moral resistance against the bad king little by little and makes it irreversible. Here we really touch the historical value of this king : he is a complete turning point in the English monarchy : the king has to accept being scrutinized and criticized by all the representatives of civil society, even if, for a time at least, these can be lured and cheated. Sooner or later good will prevail. This is Shakespeare's fundamental belief that tragedy comes from the disruption of a balanced situation by some crime and finds its resolution in the rebalancing of the situation by the elimination of the bad ones and the coming to the front of a new generation of good ones. The value of this belief in our present world is fundamental and essential.Dr Jacques COULARDEAU

Rockwell Shakespeare got away with this play because he is critical of two monastic houses that were no longer in power when he lived. The ultimate nod to the Tudors and Stuarts for whom Shakespeare worked, this play paints a picture of the York and Lancastrian dynasties as petty and foolish--as inbred buffoons. One of the most comic scenes (yes, I said comic) comes in Act II when the Duchess gets together with the wife of Clarence and his children and they all argue over who has the most to mourn.This play is a good sketch of human self-centeredness, and we like Richard perhaps because he is the only character willing to admit he's a hypocrite.By the way, I always recommend that students buy the Folger edition--this version eliminates the side-by-side in lieu of a comprehensive glossary parallel to each page of text.

The Zoo and Wild Animal Park are world renowned, and of course you need to go to Sea World, Lego Land, and a host of other attractions, all worthy, and all expensive. (I find myself visiting regularly to watch college football and basketball.) But have you thought about hiking there? San Diego County offers some wonderful undeveloped shoreline where temperatures are pleasant year round. Inland nature and recreational preserves are numerous, and growing all the time in both size and number. And within roughly an hour's drive you can reach beautiful mountains and parts of California's largest state park, the Anza Borrego Desert. All these regions are found in this 3rd edition of Sheri McGregor's 60 Hikes within 60 Miles, San Diego.For a hiking guide to even reach multiple editions it has to be pretty good and this one is deservedly a best seller within the genre. Part of that is due to the author's commitment to outdoor recreation both as an exercise and as a source of spiritual and psychological healing. This vision of what hiking can be informs much of the book and the selections the author offers are mainly chosen with the goal of reconnecting oneself with nature, even if time constraints mean you cannot travel to far from the large urban centers within the county. Another part is attempt to make this book accessible to everyone, from the casual walker to those who favor hard core hiking adventures. Although none of the trails in this book require an overnight, some of the day hikes are quite challenging. The hikes presented at the Elven Forest Recreational Reserve, outside of Escondido, exemplify the variety of trails found in this text. (I visited the preserve before writing this review and I have hiked many of the other trails described in the third edition which appeared in previous trail guides.) The two hikes from this preserve include a moderately gentle (albeit rocky in places) one mile nature walk, and a fairly strenuous 5.6 lollipop loop with substantial elevation gain and loss. And readers will easily find just about everything in between these types of hikes.Nearly half of the hikes in this book are found in north county preserves, which isn't surprising because the relative lack of population density in the north inland region of San Diego County has left more opportunity for open space. But readers will also find a dozen hikes in the San Diego mountains where elevations reach 6,000 feet and cool pine forests offer a break from summer heat. I love all ten coastal trails described here, and particularly the ones around Torrey Pines State Reserve, arguably the most spectacular coastline in southern California. A smattering of trails from inland south county and the Anza Borrego Desert round out the book.As for the routes themselves, descriptions are detailed and often include a personal touch involving the author's experiences on that particular trail. Some of the mileages in the third edition have been slightly revised from distances listed in earlier editions of this book. Maps remain adequate and easy to follow. If I have a complaint, it is that the synopsis of information about a trail appears usually on the second page of the write up and not the first, and driving directions to the trail head appear at the end of the route description, not at the front. These cavils pretty much apply to the entire 60 Hikes in 60 miles series. But then the whole series, in one sense, limits all that San Diego offers in the way of outdoor recreation. Only 60 hikes? But if you had to narrow it down to just 60, it would hard to beat the list MacGregor offers in the third edition of this guidebook.

Handy pocket guide By VL I really liked how this book cut to the chase and provided the most crucial information without a bunch of extra stuff to read. As a pregnant woman I'm busy enough with everything else I'm trying to do to get ready before my baby arrives! I do think it could be useful to pair this with another pregnancy book that has a bit more medical information (how big is my baby at x weeks, what symptoms can I expect to experience in the 5th month, etc.) but then that would make a total of two books - very manageable! This guide ensures you have handy information at your fingertips without having to lug around 40 different pregnancy books.

A Practical, No-Nonsense Guide By Marsha Moore This is a wonderful guide for mums-to-be looking for straight-up, easy to read answers to commonly asked questions. I've read a lot of pregnancy books, and often you need to scan through paragraph after paragraph of extraneous information to really find the crux. Not so with 'My Mini Midwife', thank goodness. It's informative and thorough without providing overwhelming, complicated explanations. Highly recommended! I'll certainly be keeping this close to hand for the next few months.

As a mother of 2, I can say that I wished this book had been out when I was newly pregnant as it would have been my bible! I would recommend it to anyone needing a guide in these matters. I love the cover, and the writing is not too formal. It's like a kind friend telling you all you need to know, and being patient with you while you fire a barrage of questions at them and then cry at them with the surge of hormones you get while riding the wave of pregnancy.

Here are some dos and don'ts from "Updating" by Leil Lowndes (LL):* Get the National Geographic and Scientific American magazines off your coffee table! Those are middle class! Only display literary or foreign magazines. And forget about National Enquirer or Sports Illustrated-those are low class!* Never wear bright colors! Red is a proletariat no-no! (Didn't anyone inform Nancy Reagan of this?) And natural fibers only, please. (Note - in the 21st century synthetic fibers don't exactly look like John Travolta's leisure suit in Saturday Night Fever.)*Never wear a baseball cap or a tee shirt with writing on it. (I saw a picture of Bill Gates the other day wearing a baseball cap.)*Never have a second hand on your watch. "The leisure class doesn't need to track seconds." page 118.* Have a threadbare oriental rug in your living room and décor alluding to "Mother England"*If you must lower yourself to owing a television, keep it hidden.*"Royals" never use a euphemism such as "restroom" or "bathroom". Only use the word "toilet".As you can probably tell from the above, LL is advising you on how to pass yourself off as an old money blue blood. She offers this as serious advice, but I find this chapter outrageously funny. She even gives you a quiz to tell how high class your living room is. (Subtract 3 points for each color photograph you display.)I'm not sure that I, being of Eastern European Jewish ancestry, could successfully pass myself off as being blue blood, having been at Hebrew school when I should have been at the debutantes' ball. And someone of African ancestry might have even more trouble. Subtle (and some not so subtle) ethnic and regional prejudices abound in this book.Another piece of advice on landing a wealthy mate is to move to a wealthy neighborhood. LL tells the story of a middle income gold digging friend who moved out of her nice apartment in Queens to an expensive neighborhood in Manhattan where she paid big bucks to rent a closet-size apartment. But a year or so later, the friend told the author she had good news that she could only deliver in person. So LL goes to her friend's new apartment which is the penthouse of the same building. Her friend had married the multi-millionaire art dealer she met in the elevator! Gold digging success! This gambit paid off handsomely for LL's friend, but if you don't meet your megabucks mate this way, oops! There goes your retirement money.Any book on gold digging worth its ink should give advice on how to land new money! Afterall, is a gold digger fussy about whether she (or he) lands a nouveau rich Microsoft millionaire? But there's zero advice on how to land Bill Gates' single friends.I don't want to mislead you into thinking this is only a gold digging manual, however. You also learn (chapter 3) "How to Find a Drop-Dead Gorgeous Mate". The trick here is to give no indication that you are swooning over them for their looks. Instead, feign (oops that was my word) an appreciation for their kind heart or integrity. Don't let on that you landed them for their looks. The book rather implies that good looking and/or wealthy people are better specimens of humanity than the rest of us, although LL acknowledges that even beautiful people can have flaws. She gives the example that you're with your ho-hum (read average looking) date when you spot an extremely attractive stranger who smiles at you and dines alone. Well gosh dang it, you're stuck with a frog! LL recommends you give all frogs (and frogettes) their hopping papers to free yourself up for "royals". Frogs, according to the context of this book are anyone not rich enough, beautiful enough or otherwise not good enough for you. LL uses a bit of evolutionary biology to justify gold digging and looks-ism, see page 2 "Bugs and Beasts Are Smarter When Choosing a Mate." Afterall, animals choose mates based on looks and ability to bring food for the offspring.There's also a bizarre chapter on "How to Capture a Magical One-of-a-Kind Mate" which is basically a quirky artist type with unusual sexual habits. Another seriously intended chapter I recommend only for entertainment value.Ironically, after the chapter telling you how to pass yourself off as blue blood is the chapter, "How to Find an Honorable Mate," which preaches impeccable honesty at all times. It's one of only two chapters that in my opinion give good dating advice, if taken in isolation from rest of the book. The other bit of good advice is the section in the last chapter, "Be Careful What You Wish For (You Just Might Get It!). Here she quotes studies showing that finding your rich or beautiful partner might not make you happier! For instance, the former hippy chick who married a wealthy blue blood and lived in a mansion in the 'burbs with a maid, cook, and gardener. With no job and nothing to do, she turned to alcohol and drugs. Wow, so after writing a manual on gold digging and landing gorgeous people, LL tells you you might not want to be doing this after all! A fine unintentionally comic ending for a dating book that belongs in the humor section.

31 of 36 people found the following review helpful. Wow, this book is terrific! It's a "10" By William Cape I thought Leil's "How to Make Anybody Fall in Love With You" was tops. But "Updating" is even better because it's not just how to make ANYBODY fall in love with you. She tells you where to hunt, and how to get, a spectacular partner.(Way out of your league?) What I like is that "one size doesn't fit all." In different sections, she gives you get realistic and researched techniques to win a different type of superior man or woman. Do you want someone who is:1) Very rich?2) Famous?3) High class and discriminating?4) Gorgeous?5) Creative and interesting?6) Ethical and honorable?She tells you what type of person each is looking for, and why they respond to different approaches. "Updating " tells you where to find each particular type and how to win them over. I happened to want a beautiful and refined woman (they really ARE different than average women,) and her unusual techniques worked. I am now dating a classy 10!________________________________________________________________

But after reading Updating, the dreaming is over and it's becoming a reality. Having the typical "You gotta show me" mentality we have in Missouri, I needed proof. Not to sound arrogant, but I read Updating and now I'm convinced that I can get the best -- and I know how to do it. The author gives studies which back up everything she says. And one of them is that people always underestimate their ability to attract.As she wrote, because of many reasons, especially lack of self-esteem, we SUBCONSCIOUSLY shy away from making a 100% effort to go after what we want. We only go after who we think we deserve. It's so true. Now I know where to find and how to appeal to the men I want -- and know I deserve. My self image and my love life have improved spectactularly. Read this book and you will soon be hanging with a better class of people too.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Just meh. By hardworkingdiva I'm not sure if this novella was really needed. It was just a bit of something that equalled nothing. I was hoping to see more development between the two lovers. I think more time and proper editing would have helped this book tremendously. What didn't hurt was the authors natural flow and the likability of the characters, although I must say that the heroine works my nerves being so judgmental of the crowds who supports her man's career.In a nutshell, not a bad read, but not a great one either. It was just okay.

The author states that this book is meant to be read as a standalone, but I disagree. If I read this book without reading "Black and Blue", I would rate it 3 stars. To really enjoy this story you have to read the first one to see how it all started for this couple. I really enjoyed "Black and Blue", and this book is missing the "key" element that made "Black and Blue" so great - the hero's side. This story only has one POV - the heroine, which is really disappointing because the hero's story is what made the first book such a fascinating read (esp his family life). Even in the first book, I wasn't totally in love with the heroine, so having her as the only POV in this book was a complete let down. With that said, I'm not going to hold this book against Ms. Notaro. I'm becoming a big fan of this author - I love that her IR books are about men from the wrong side of the track and the good women that "saves" them. I'm looking forward to reading more from Ms. Notaro!

This is the continuation of Gabrielle's and Sean's story from the book, 'Black and Blue'. In this story, Sean has lost a couple of fights and his high ranking in the multi-arts fight game which has caused him to become distant and withdrawn from Gabi. Gabi is trying to perfect a gumbo recipe with the hope of winning a culinary contest which will enhance her chances in becoming a chef. Their romance and quality time together has gone from 'hot to cold' or from being together and enjoying each other's company to rarely seeing each other. While this story is well written, it lacks the quality and flow of the first installation, and is miles from 'Storm's Soldiers MC' books.

Analogies between eating habits and relationship practices were surprisingly relevant and an effective communication tactic. I'm not a fan of self-help books, but a friend recommended it and I'm glad. The concepts made sense and the practice and self quiz areas helped make it specific to my situation. I have already recommended it to several friends.

It's a hood love story, but not like the typical ones that I am used to reading. It is based on a teenage couple and their high school years. Nancy is your typical naïve girl and Deon is the typical manipulative boy. They are both fumbling their way through life. This book left me with unanswered questions, so I have to get part 2 to see how things turn out for these two.

I knew it wouldn't take long for him to get back to his wicked ways... This book is based on choices, bad decision making. Whether it's love, money, streets, food or drugs. We all have an addictive nature... When it comes to Sai, she has all the answers for everyone but herself. I feel sorry for poor T, she's the only thinker of the crew. Sonny is by far my favorite and I pray I see him in part 3' Can't wait.

How do you rationally connect the diverse literature, music, and painting of an age? Throughout the modernist era—which began roughly in 1872 with the Franco-Prussian War, climaxed with the Great War, and ended with a third catastrophe, the Great Depression—there was a special belligerence to this question. It was a cultural period that envisioned many different models of itself: to the Cubists, it looked like a vast jigsaw puzzle; to the Expressionists, it resembled a convulsive body; to the Dadaists, it brought to mind a heap of junk following an explosion. In Putting Modernism Together, Daniel Albright searches for the center of the modernist movement by assessing these various artistic models, exploring how they generated a stunning range of creative work that was nonetheless wound together aesthetically, and sorting out the cultural assumptions that made each philosophical system attractive. Emerging from Albright’s lectures for a popular Harvard University course of the same name, the book investigates different methodologies for comparing the evolution and congruence of artistic movements by studying simultaneous developments that occurred during particularly key modernist years. What does it mean, Albright asks, that Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness, published in 1899, appeared at the same time as Claude Debussy’s Nocturnes—beyond the fact that the word "Impressionist" has been used to describe each work? Why, in 1912, did the composer Arnold Schoenberg and the painter Vassily Kandinsky feel such striking artistic kinship? And how can we make sense of a movement, fragmented by isms, that looked for value in all sorts of under- or ill-valued places, including evil (Baudelaire), dung heaps (Chekhov), noise (Russolo), obscenity (Lawrence), and triviality (Satie)?
