Before she died I made a promise to her that I would write a book about our experiences and this book is me keeping that promise. It is a book crammed full of emotional and practical support for anyone facing the daunting challenge of caring for a loved one. I believe most people in the world will be faced by the possibility of caring for someone in their lifetime and it is important that we are all as ready as we can be for this. I spent four years caring for my mum when she developed dementia and I promised her that I would write a book about our experiences to help others going through the same thing. This book is about my journey with my mum, what we learnt, what we experienced, our ups & downs and how it made us feel. In the book I candidly share my thoughts, my opinions and my advice for anyone out there who is dealing with caring for a loved one. My mum lost her battle but I hope this book in someway will play a part in helping us win the war on defeating this terrible illness.

Once upon a time the Jae family lived in a tiny drought-stricken desert town that was miles from anywhere in The Outback of Australia in the nineteen fifties. It was a hard-drinking brawling kind of place where the men made up the law and everyone, including the sole policeman, obeyed it. The rules changed constantly. Most people in the town had more fights than feeds especially over the long reign of its conservative Prime Minister, ‘Pig Iron’ Bob Menzies. The Australian people had been in a constant state of fear since its convict settlement in the seventeen seventies and the self-interested kept them there any which way they could. Along with their parents, Rene and Tom, the Jae family included Henry, Jenny and Baby Girl. They went to the local Catholic school and church but on their way there Jenny and Baby Girl had to protect Henry, and his glasses from the local State school kids. They fought all the way to school and all the way back again. At school, the nuns brutalized the children in their care. Their parents, the police and Father Fourex, the priest who was named after his favourite beer, were too afraid of them to complain. The only escape from the town and the family was at The Mish, an Aboriginal camp of First Nation peoples across the river. There, Uncle Lincoln, a tribal elder, tried to provide Jenny, as well as his own mob, with a sense of safety and sobriety from the grog-induced rage that ran the town. Jenny’s matter of fact commentary about their lives provides the backdrop to the comic, tragic and the plain bizarre stories about the people and the town.

She should told him what Terry pedophile behind. She should have known Better. I like her brother Davon he did Michelle WRONG. He END up making it right. How Rick GONNA get out of Jail and try to claim Davita knowing that she went with your brother. I CAN'T WAIT FOR PART THREE

Great literature without pretense By Dave What I liked most about this book was that each story was a window into a larger world, evocative in a way that lets your imagination explore the possibilities, so you feel there's even more story than what's contained in the pages. There are no details missing, everything is complete, and at the same time there's something happening here, a thread that connects each shorter narrative into something continuous and just slightly out of grasp.Wayde Compton chooses to write without quotation marks, which does take some adjustment. However, it's a small detail that is soon forgotten as you get drawn into how well he expresses his ideas. Compton's writing is smooth in a way that grants you effortless access to fascinating premises and engaging characters.
