Excerpt from Feminism and Sex-ExtinctionFeminism, the extremist - and of late years the predominant cult of the Woman's Movement, is Masculinism. It makes for such training and development in woman, of male characteristics, as shall equip her to compete with the male in every department of life; academic, athletic, professional, political, industrial. And it neither recognises nor admits in her natural aptitudes differing from those of men, and fitting her, accordingly, for different functions in these. It rejects all concessions to her womanhood; even to her mother function. It repudiates all privileges for her. Boldly it demands a fair field only and no favour; equal rights, political and social, identical education and training, identical economic opportunities and avocations, an identical morale, personal and public. In Woman and Labour, Miss Olive Schreiner sums in a line the Feminist objective: "We take all labour for our province." And this is the text of the Feminist creed; the elimination of sex-differences and the abolition of sex-distinctions in every department of life and activity.Feminists anticipate - the militant faction with zest - fierce economic encounters between the sexes now that. War ended, our men, having fought their own and woman's battle in the trenches, are returning to reclaim their places in the world of work.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. I ordered this book because somewhere on a page photo that someone submitted it mentioned how masculine women have feminine sons. As most women today, (in my opinion), seem very masculine and there are growing numbers of feminine young men, I was curious what the author had to say. I'm only about 100 pages into this book and find much of it fascinating. I've come across many ideas I've never heard of before. I'm not saying I agree with everything, but I do find it interesting. The author calls herself a feminist but is extremely critical of the movement. She strongly opposes women becoming masculine and taking men's roles. Essentially, her angle on feminism is that women should remain feminine and retain their traditional roles but should (apparently) have more rights than they did at the time (although I haven't come across this yet). She states this is how the human race became strong, and that women taking men's roles and becoming masculine led to the downfall of ancient civilizations. Her opinion of most women 100 years ago (when this was written) was that there were two extremes; ultra masculine women and ultra feminine women("femininism"), neither of which was good (in her opinion). She said most were ultra masculine, and described them as "monsters" in one place. Although I have two or three hundred more pages to go in this very complex book, I feel comfortable recommending it with 5 stars as she offers a lot of honest, deep analysis of feminism.
