By AJ I thought it was masterfully written weaving in the personal history and experience of a family in real time and bringing the scriptural elements into play at strategic points in the narrative. In addition to the scriptural elements the book was sprinkled with thought-provoking questions throughout so it was clear that your journey was meant to be shared because one could not read, ponder the questions and answer in solitude.. The family history, the biblical history and the contemporary questions combined to make the content more meaningful and it was clear that the author did not intend for the book to be read and put aside. Those of us who are parents know all-too-well that there is no manual for how to do the most important job in the world, but looking at parenting, sibling relationships and the outcome of some of the most storied biblical families gives a fresh perspective on this daunting task. I found it to be as humbling as it was thought-provoking and as historical as it is contemporary. It can easily be the focus of serial sermons, Bible study or Sunday School. It is a "must read" for Biblical counselors and theology students. It would be fascinating discussion in book club...It was food for the soul.
