By Loretta R Walls Consistency should be a crime, well, at least for Iris Bolling it should...As the fifth installment in The Heart Series, A Lost Heart does everything Bolling intended...and then some!Bolling inserts her readers in the precise place the previous novel left off, with Brian recovering from being shot in the back. Brian was ready to return to his duties, protecting his lifelong friend and current Attorney General of Virginia, JD Harrison. Although Brian was known for being a ladies' man, he's more than meets the eye.At the advisement of JD, Brian reluctantly visits, Nickelsville, Virginia for a potential return visit for his friend. Little did he know Nickelsville held information that would change his life forever.In a word: Caitlyn.Bolling has provided a hit after hit after hit with The Heart Series. The writing is fluid, concise and riveting. This particular novel is very fast-paced. Brian Thompson has just gotten out of the hospital. Having been shot four times in the back, he had a lot to be thankful for. Brian was eager to return to work protecting his lifelong friend, Jeffery Daniel (JD) Harrison, who began to campaign for the position of Governor of Virginia. As he watched his friends with their families, Brian felt fortunate to be a part of their lives but he secretly yearned for more.JD was grateful to have Brian as a part of his security team. After saving his life and the life of his wife, Tracy and their children¸ JD knew there was nothing he would not do for him. In order to ease his pain, JD sent him to Nickelsville, Virginia. Brian was furious with this latest assignment. Little did he know the next 48 hours would change his life forever.Bolling has stepped up her game. Through a series of flashbacks, Bolling takes readers to the beginning of Brian's career. As he recalls the highs and lows of his life, Brian recalls how he lost his heart. From the beginning of the story to the very end, I found myself engulfed in the story. Having followed this series from the beginning, I have watched Bolling's writing mature and capture readers with a blend of mystery, politics, suspense and romance. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Well worth the wait!! By KLMNC I've been eagerly waiting for Brian's story and I must say that A Lost Heart was well worth the wait! This book tells the story of Brian Thompson and Caitlyn Montgomery. They were college sweethearts until Caitlyn mysteriously disappeared. Now it's 10 years later and Brian has been sent to Nickelsville, VA by his good friend Attorney General JD Harrison as part of his security detail to prepare for a future visit. While there he runs into Caitlyn and is determined to find out why she left him and broke his heart.Typically I don't like books in which there are flashbacks because I hate the constant jumping from present to past. A lot of times books like that end up being boring and tedious because the author fails to make the scenes transition smoothly. However, the flashback scenes were handled perfectly in this book and provided just enough of the back story to make the story flow fluently.I found myself laughing out loud several times during some of the scenes. It was also great to catch up with the characters from the earlier books as well. I agree with an earlier reviewer who commented on the author's growth as a writer which is well demonstrated in this book.I found this to be an enjoyable read and would recommend it to others.
