By Mspraise1 This is book 2 in the Morretti Brothers Series.This Marco and Monica and Takeo and Kiyomi’s story.I was really looking forward to reading Marco and Monica's story after the book teasers I had read. I was very disappointed that most of the book is about Takeo and Kiyomi’s story on how to make contact with her twin sister. The story was all around how Ki and Takeo overcoming all the hurdles to make this happen. There is murder, mystery, family, love, hate, misdirection,n forgiveness in this story.I thought the chemistry between Marco and Monica was electric and I wished that the story was about them and their love and how they overcame the issues in their relationship. There was not enough about this couple story for me.All that said it was a good read!

Also disappointed that secondarily characters seemed to have more of a story than Marco and Monica - especially Takeo and Kiyomi. Not enough of the story covered Marco's and Monica's relationship - timeline was too fast to really present a substantive story that was fully developed. I can only assume the next installment will feature Rafe and Muri - should be interesting.

I had to put this book down while I was reading it at work because I was getting WAAAAYYY to into it(if you know what I mean). The story picks up with Marco and Monica who are too hot for words. I really enjoyed how the author introduced a new love story in Kiyomi and Nakeo while still giving us a look into what's been going on with Victoria and Dominic. It was refreshing to have a series not only give us an entirely new story and characters, but also tied everything together. Drama, suspense, hot sex, and great writing. Totally worth the wait.

About the Author Susanna Moodie (1803-1885) is the Canadian pioneer and critically acclaimed author of Roughing it in the Bush and Life in the Bush Versus the Clearings, frank portrayals of life as a settler in 19th century Canada. She was the younger sister of writers Agnes Strickland and Catharine Parr Traill, who also wrote about her experience as a Canadian settler in The Backwoods of Canada. Before immigrating to Canada Susanna Moodie was a successful author of such children s books as The Little Quaker and The Sailor Brother, and was an active abolitionist. Moodie s works continue to influence contemporary writers like Margaret Atwood, and her contribution to Canadian literature was commemorated on a Canadian postage stamp in 2003.

Excerpt. © Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved. The early part of the winter of 1837, a year never to be forgotten in the annals of Canadian history, was very severe…. The morning of the seventh was so intensely cold that everything liquid froze in the house. The wood that had been drawn for the fire was green, and it ignited too slowly to satisfy the shivering impatience of women and children; I vented mine in audibly grumbling over the wretched fire, at which I in vain endeavoured to thaw frozen bread, and to dress crying children….After dressing, I found the air so keen that I could not venture out without some risk to my nose, and my husband kindly volunteered to go in my stead.I had hired a young Irish girl the day before. Her friends were only just located in our vicinity, and she had never seen a stove until she came to our house. After Moodie left, I suffered the fire to die away in the Franklin stove in the parlour, and went into the kitchen to prepare bread for the oven.The girl, who was a good-natured creature, had heard me complain bitterly of the cold, and the impossibility of getting the green wood to burn, and she thought that she would see if she could not make a good fire for me and the children, against my work was done. Without saying one word about her intention, she slipped out through a door that opened from the parlour into the garden, ran round to the wood-yard, filled her lap with cedar chips, and, not knowing the nature of the stove, filled it entirely with the light wood.Before I had the least idea of my danger I was aroused from the completion of my task by the crackling and roaring of a large fire, and a suffocating smell of burning soot. I looked up at the kitchen cooking-stove. All was right there. I knew I had left no fire in the parlour stove; but not being able to account for the smoke and smell of burning, I opened the door, and to my dismay found the stove red-hot, from the front plate to the topmost pipe that let out the smoke through the roof.My first impulse was to plunge a blanket, snatched from the servant’s bed, which stood in the kitchen, into cold water. This I thrust into the stove, and upon it I threw water, until all was cool below. I then ran up to the loft, and by exhausting all the water in the house, even to that contained in the boilers upon the fire, contrived to cool down the pipes which passed through the loft. I then sent the girl out of doors to look at the roof, which, as a very deep fall of snow had taken place the day before, I hoped would be completely covered, and safe from all danger of fire.She quickly returned, stamping and tearing her hair, and making a variety of uncouth outcries, from which I gathered that the roof was in flames.

Superlative By Sam Hill This story is from the 1830's onwards and its setting is the (then) British colony of Canada.Adopting various formats including that of a novel, a romance, a diary and a history, embroidered with poems, the book relates Moodie's experiences as an immigrant settled with her husband to a primitive and penniless pioneering life near present-day Peterborough, Ontario, in forests that were, at the time, remote and near-impenetrable. Moodie opens with a grim warning that a settler's life is extremely harsh; and a condemnation of the glib promoters urging Englishmen to emigrate and thereby accede to wealth and a life of ease, which in fact becomes nothing but a tragic pipe dream for the vast majority.The author is manifestly an intelligent, compassionate, sensitive and observant person with a marked talent for writing and poetry. Her education had most certainly not been of a common sort. Her character inspired Margaret Atwood's fine book of poems in our era, "The Journals of Susanna Moodie".It is no surprise, then, that Moodie's book was a best-seller in its day and is, even now, of enduring interest, especially to a Canadian. I liked most particularly her sympathetic vignettes of Canada's native peoples that she had encountered. "Nature's gentlemen", she called them, in contrast to the noisy bedraggled multitudes flooding the shores from Europe. The mind-numbing hardships and poverty endured by Canada's early pioneers, so vividly described by the author, are a phase of history one tends to gloss over in modern times. It needed a particular mindset, motivation, and formidable physical attributes to become a thriving hewer of wood, drawer of water and ultimately a farmer in the primeval wilderness. A great many of the immigrants just did not have that moxie, nor the benign helping hand of fortune (although there were others too, of course, who did have it in spades).Her remark in the early part of the book, which I copied (from an audio version) and reproduce here, made me understand so much better my own parents' feelings as immigrants to this same land, whom I had, as a callow youth, classified cavalierly as perpetual exiles: "My heart yearned intensely for my absent home. Home! The word had ceased to belong to my present. It was doomed to live forever in the past. For what immigrant ever regarded the country of his exile as his home? To the land that he has left that name belongs forever, and in no instance does he bestow it upon another. 'I have got a letter from home ...'; 'I have seen a friend from home...'; 'I dreamt last night that I was at home...'; are expressions of everyday occurrence to prove that the heart acknowledges no other home than the land of its birth". How aptly, how touchingly put!Moodie provides insights helpful to the understanding of other authors' works from that same era; for instance, those of Rudyard Kipling. We infer that British officers who retired early due to battlefield injuries received only half-pension, which made it virtually impossible for them to live decently back in England and often served as a powerful spur towards emigration. Having been schooled by the Empire to command and to be obeyed, they had little aptitude for _living _with_ those they had been raised to rule. Dr. Watson shared his Baker Street digs with the legendary Sherlock Holmes in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous series for precisely that reason. On his invalid's pension, Capt (Ret.) Watson would have had a very tough time indeed of survival in London on his own, if he wished to continue rubbing elbows with those of his own class. Watson was a fictional personage, to be sure; but his case was typical.Such folks were easy marks for promoters urging them to "Go West". That is why the Moodie family emigrated to the colony of Canada, which destination, at that time, was the infatuation of the day. Military retirees on tight budgets such as he were in demand and they went in droves, even though unfit for the rough labouring life of a pioneer, credulously buying into yarns about castles in the sky. This led, far more often than not, to their ultimate sorrow.Regrettably, the Table of Contents, while well and truly provided, is not linked to the corresponding pages. This obviates the possibility of being able to browse through the book. Accordingly, I am obliged to give my review of this e-book edition only 4 stars, instead of the 5 (and plus!) that it merits. Nevertheless I still highly recommend this work.

This is a treasure By Fran Stewart This gem of a volume starts with cholera, and ends with a plea for families in the 1800s not to emigrate to the New World. Camping it most certainly isn't. We're talking life and death situations.I would have made a lousy pioneer; ROUGHING IT IN THE BUSH simply fortifies that knowledge. Susanna Moodie did not choose to move from England to Canada. Like so many women of her times, the choice was made by her husband, and she had no recourse but to follow him. Her staunch attitude that refused to be overcome by despair despite the very real hardships she had to endure, makes her, in my mind, a model of the kind of strength women have and often do not recognize until we are called upon to test it.

She writes in a natural, unaffected way, and documents her journey from England to Canada, where she and her husband started a farm and raised a family. She brings to life the hardships, the worries, and the day to day routines of these settlers, in now familiar places.

But rarely does a reader get a chance to go inside an author’s mind – to find out what they are thinking and doing when they sit down at the computer to write. This is what makes this collection so innovative and inspiring.It is a gift for aspiring writers, and all thanks and gratitude must go to independent publisher, Spineless Wonders, for producing it.There are numerous gems to be gleaned here. Writer Claire Aman explains her ‘notebook’ method, where eclectic thoughts and ideas are recorded and synthesized before any writing of story takes place. (It’s as if my subconscious needs to be fed before it will throw me a plot.)Michael Giacometti’s essay ranges from discussing the important of the first sentence (It is a boxer putting you on your arse with the first punch) to his haphazard process (The ‘rough’ is my method) and the ethics of writing from the indigenous perspective.Ultimately, this is a reassuring read. Writing is not magic. Writers do not sit down and have the words flow out of them. What these authors show is that writing is a process. It is hard work. It is full of self-doubt and interrogation.But, as this collection shows, the end product is worth it.

Page after page will keep you engrossed and eagerly anticipating what was going to happen next.Who wants a perfect love story anyway is a verse Shontay might have sung right along with Beyonce but she was truly about that life and was always willing and able to go above and beyond in the name of love, while proving she was definitely Bugsy’s true ride or die chick.Al-Saadiq Banks penned a wonderful tale of two lovers and the plot was perfectly executed. It was a pleasure to read because the storyline was so well developed, that the story was a real adrenaline rush, similar to the feeling you get from your favorite roller coaster ride at an amusement park.\Fans of crime drama and suspense will definitely enjoy Outlaw Chick because it is a keep you on the edge of your seat type of story. By Cdemer Dance of Joy gave me new insight and compassion for families who live daily with the challenges of a special needs child or children in their families. Jeff and Meredith ( the parents in the story) face real issues that families with special needs children face such as education plans, fighting for what is best for their child in the face of "the system", and finally the roles that all family members must embrace for the success of the child as well as the entire family.As I read this book I could clearly see how many families face these same frustrations and yet are able to experience the hope that Dance of Joy describes as you persevere to do the right thing and the best thing for all family members involved. I have personally seen the dance of joy that autistic children and young adults do when they are excited or dealing with something. Read this book to see the joy that families with these challenges can find in embracing the gift that God has given you of that special needs child in your family. Loved this book! It captivated me and by a few chapters in I could not wait to see what happened next in the story of Jeff and Meredith and their family!

By Nina S Dance of Joy by Melissa Campbell Rowe is a hard review to tackle, I think in part because it was probably a hard novel to write. In essence, Dance of Joy is a lesson in autism - what it is, how to deal with it, how not to deal with it, and how it affects the lives of those around it. Because it is so fact-laden, it is hard to draw the line between the facts and the story - but I think that blending the two is precisely what Rowe did right.I was initially drawn to this book because my boyfriend is on the autism spectrum (high-functioning Asperger's syndrome). In all the time I have known him, I've had difficulty straddling the line of seeking knowledge and learning to help weighed against just plain offending him. Rowe really tackled this balance head-on with her two main characters: the mother and father of a boy with autism.Meredith, the mother, is a partial stay-at-home mom with three girls as well as Tucker, a boy diagnosed early in life with autism. For part of elementary school, Tucker functioned normally in a private school classroom with accommodations. During this time, Meredith was able to work as a school teacher, so that level of income and lifestyle became the norm for the family. But when Tucker gets suspended from the private school after an incident of violence, their entire system is uprooted as Meredith must quit her job and commit full-time as Tucker's advocate to get him the education he needs and deserves.Back to my dichotomy, Meredith is Tucker's voice in the story as Tucker himself is not high-functioning enough to articulate his own needs. Meredith sinks relations with her parents and husband. She burdens her oldest daughter, who is only an early teen herself, with familial responsibilities. She sinks her family into debt with lawyers fees and school tuition. But Rowe's point is that she is doing exactly what needs to be done. If Meredith is not the traditional "protagonist" of the story, she is at the very least its hero, crusading for Tucker's welfare and getting him every amenity he needs in order to live happily and healthily with his disability.Jeff by comparison almost seems like the bad guy, although as per my interview with Rowe, she considers him to be the protagonist. By Ali - The Dragon Slayer This is a difficult book to read but is approached in such a way that even through all the pain and despair there is a vision of hope.We begin in the emergency room .. Meredith has an eye injury. She is waiting to see the doctor and has left her son Tucker in the waiting room .. enter husband Jeff. All Meredith wants to do is drift off to sleep and forget what happened. Jeff promises to take Tucker home to put him and their daughters to bed.It’s when we realise Tucker was actually responsible for Meredith’s injury that it becomes apparent this isn’t an ‘ordinary’ happy family. Tucker is becoming violent, moody, causing arguments with his sisters, getting into trouble and eventual expulsion from school. But is it all done intentionally or has Tucker got deeper issues ?Meredith wants to seek help for her son, Jeff is in denial saying he is ‘just a boy’. This gripping tale highlights the difficulties faced by families when a member has special needs. The frustrations at dealing with the system, the lengths they need to go to protect themselves and Tucker. The inevitable strain on the marriage but also the realisation that the smallest glimmer of hope can result in a ‘Dance of Joy’.There will be plenty of people who read this who have a child with autism who nod in agreement with all that is happening and for those that have no experience hopefully it will enable a little more tolerance and understanding.I think I gained a lot from this book and it was a memorable read. Thanks to the author and Sage’s Blog Tours for giving me the opportunity to give my honest opinion.

Adorable and simplistic story that conveys the deep meaning of real friendship By Hope Kopasek As an Elementary Esol Teacher, I am always looking for comprehensible stories that convey a message about the human condition, friendship, virtues, etc. and this book is just wonderful for learning about friendship. Sometimes children need to learn what friendship means and this story conveys a very special aspect of it. The illustrations are lovely, the story is easy to read, and I especially liked the seemingly simple verses that spoke volumes to even myself, being an adult. It's just an adorable story that you will want to read and have your children read over and over!H. Kopasek

By J.E.M This is a heartwarming tale of friendship and transformation. It instructs children how friends can help bring out the best in each other with kind words and deeds. The story features very nice lyrical language at points in the story. The story wisely avoids assigning genders to the characters; perhaps boy readers might relate to the caterpillar character and girls to the rose- young readers have the freedom to see it as they imagine. I wish the author much success with his work and encourage him to continue with new stories!

This book is BY FAR one of the best we have ever read. It touches the heart like no other and really puts a smile on your face! It teaches the meaning of frienship in a simple, yet unique way. The illustrations are cleverly done and is "MUST READ" for anyone teaching their child(ren) the meaning of a "TRUE FRIEND". Rated 5 stars because definitely worth the read!!! Great Read By Maniparna Sengupta Majumder Santosh Avvannavar has joined hands with Jyothi Byahatti and Raghunath Babu Are to come up with The Departing Point, a book that tells tales of love but, in a different way.Love has too many faces and, of course, disguises. Some say love is nothing but a hormonal reaction (read imbalance), others refute this biological approach by referring love as ultimate bliss. Whatever it is, one thing is hugely accepted that love is something that gives you a feeling of oneness with your partner; it is a journey together. But what when love fails to reach a destination? Will one enjoy the journey or mourn its failure? The Departing Point caters us with seven such unconventional love stories. The stories in which two hearts start a musical phrase but somehow the final cadence remains unachievable.The first story, “My Last Letter”, shows us how the apparently glamorous world of the silver-screen makes one’s life a fake one. So full and resplendent from outside but empty and fiddling from the inside and, how one fails to identify the true love of life when deluded by the dazzle of the glam world.The second one “Derailed-Salem Express” presents a college romance in a hilarious manner. The SWOT Analysis of the potential girlfriends and, the way the hero marks each and every girl of the college, make me smile.“Julie Loves Me” has a different note, of love found and love lost while all the labor goes awry in between.“Checklist Love” and “My Cinderella” both are stories about whims of women and the way they sometimes use men as their playthings (harsh reality)The sixth story, “Open and Closed Love”. It depicts the age-old fact that one can love only for love’s sake and nothing else matters. Love because you feel compelled to love, that it makes you happier and, always respect the willingness of your partner in the relationship. The last story is in sthe form of a play.All the stories, as a whole, gives you a feeling of incompleteness in love and, rightly serves the tagline of the book,”two people departed, in search of love, leaving love in between”.The language is simple, the authors have kept in mind that the stories can be read and understood by the mass. The Departing Point is a short, simple, and nice read. The decent cover design by Fabiola Bonghi is also quite appreciable.I received a free copy from the author but, that hasn't influenced my review in any way.

By JAYASREE ROY Adolescence is the age of feeling for somebody-caring for somebody and well, getting addicted by an addiction called love for somebody.It is always said that love is nothing but chemical phenomena-where secretion of some hormones, some chemical composition controls it all-but who cares?After all love is blind......There is sudden rush of adrenaline after seeing some girl- heartbeat is going at the speed of a rocket before your first date-all types of feeling are there in a feeling named love.And again, anything is fair in love and war-so all types of ethical and unethical manipulations are permitted.This book is a first person account of his experience with girls-or to be more precise, his experiments with truth-written in a hilarious way.Santosh has a witty style of writing that can discover laughter in very serious incidents-and this book is nom exception.
