Safe Under the Willow tells a story of forgiveness, love, and healing. Forty-year-old Jillian Davenport has the perfect life, complete with a loving husband, two children, a career, and a cozy little home-until one innocent conversation with an alcoholic patient, Mr. Hopkins, allows darkness from her violent past to integrate its way into the present. Domestic abuse, alcoholism, and hatred were parts of her life that she had put behind her some twenty years ago- a part of her life that she'd rather stay hidden from her family. Throughout the saga Jillian will reveal the physical and mental abuse of her childhood with those she loves the most. But with that comes risk. Jillian fears her family will judge her because of her upbringing or pity the broken little girl she buried inside. Follow Jillian as she exposes the truth, the importance of friendship, and how to heal from an abusive childhood. Which, ultimately, helps her to understand how the weak survive.

She is a lovely person, truly given over to God and His leading in her life. The result of her obedience is "Safe Under the Willow."This is a tough read. Shannon tells a difficult story without any sugar-coating. The darkness of domestic violence marks the life of the protagonist, Jillian Davenport.Jillian has worked for years to keep her past under wraps. She has a good life - loving husband, kids, career. She worries that it will all come crashing down if she shares her past. That those she cares about will judge her, will somehow blame her for actions and events she had no control over. One conversation with a patient at the center where she works brings it all to surface - and finally, the work of healing begins.Though the subject matter is at times dark, the book is worth reading. We know that darkness can never overcome the light (John 1:5). This is precisely what is revealed through the pages. The Lord steps in and, gently, lovingly, brings Jillian to a place of confronting her past and turning it over to Him. His light touches every black spot, reworking it into something good as only He can.I appreciate Shannon's honesty and integrity in writing "Safe Under the Willow." This is clearly a labor of love and an act of worship. We need more real, gritty stories like this that showcase the glory, majesty and grace of God.

The author paints a detailed account of a young girl's life growing up in a home plagued with DV. It is evident how focused and determined this child was to want something better for herself. It was her faith that pulled her through and helped her become everything she hoped and then some. She comes to see how keeping her past a secret has kept her from developing certain relationships fully. Her ability to come to terms with her past and truly forgive are what make this story powerful. There is always hope, even in the darkest days. You just have to have trust in God and His plan for you. Life lessons abound in this harrowing tale.

We are all offered a free and perfect gift, Grace - unmerited favor By Jamie M Gross The strength that God gave Shannon through her childhood, you have to admire the courage God gave her to tell her story. She never blamed anyone. She understood that everything happens for a reason. All that she went through was preparing her for the future, how the Holy Spirit would use her to glorify the kingdom. We are all offered a free and perfect gift, Grace - unmerited favor. God bless you as you read this book and may you feel the healing touch of our Lord and Savior, Jesus. Forgiveness and healing is waiting for you if you accept him in your heart.
