It reads like a personal journal but is full of insights regarding relationships, culture, and war. Young men and women alike will appreciate her military insights and descriptions of intense wartime conflict as well as her journey of love in the midst of strife. I was impressed with Spozhmae's dedication to women who have been harmed through tactics of control and abuse. She demonstrates passion towards these brave women and tells her story so that we can unite in our stance against abuse. She shares her thoughts honestly about Afghani culture, the U.S. involvement in Afghanistan, and how her own experiences of war have impacted her life. Great read!

It is not long or drawn out, but provides a very raw, intimate look at a woman who is both Afghan & American, who has been torn between the country she was born in & the country she was raised and ultimately, to choose between her traditional faith/family and a man with who she fell in love with. I see a proud Afghan woman who wanted to help her people, follow her heart, but was torn by faith, tradition & family belief. I encourage all women to read this to understand that in America, women do have so many privileges & rights, that women in countries like Afghanistan do not have...and that women like Spozhmae....risked alot...to go there to help them

By Amazon Customer God, Love and War is an eye-opening reminder of the suffering and tragedies that took place in Afghanistan. Spozhmae writes about her first-hand experiences in a way that makes the story vivid. It was interesting to get her point of view, as a woman, on what it was like to live on a military base. I appreciated when she explained military lingo and acronyms. I also appreciated the love story that ensued from her work as an interpreter/advisor to the U.S. Military. Overall, it was a great read and a great lesson on life.
