About the Author Wayde Compton is the author of two books of poetry, 49th Parallel Psalm (Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize finalist) and Performance Bond. He also edited the anthology Bluesprint: Black British Columbian Literature and Orature. His non-fiction book After Canaan: Essays on Race, Writing, and Region was shortlisted for the City of Vancouver Book Award. Wayde is the director of the Writer’s Studio and the Southbank Writer’s Program at Simon Fraser University Continuing Studies.

Great literature without pretense By Dave What I liked most about this book was that each story was a window into a larger world, evocative in a way that lets your imagination explore the possibilities, so you feel there's even more story than what's contained in the pages. There are no details missing, everything is complete, and at the same time there's something happening here, a thread that connects each shorter narrative into something continuous and just slightly out of grasp.Wayde Compton chooses to write without quotation marks, which does take some adjustment. However, it's a small detail that is soon forgotten as you get drawn into how well he expresses his ideas. Compton's writing is smooth in a way that grants you effortless access to fascinating premises and engaging characters.
