In order to collect the fairy tales in this book for you, we had been interviewing Polish natives from 1992 to 2012. These tales are radiant with the Polish people's vitality, filial love for one’s parents, and the energy of kindness. They were collectively created by the Polish nation. Many authors of various origins have adopted these folk motives since then. However, this compilation presents the original folk versions of the tales.

Will Go Down in History By Helen Ronaldo To read these is to get an insight into the minds of people past.These are not your Disney, but original versions.I read Polish fairy tales to my daughter every night. I explain how companies like Disney have gotten so many things wrong.Book has some interesting illustrations.Overall, Polish Fairy Tales is a charming, clever, entertaining work.There is an active table of contents.For instance, here are a couple of tales from this book:1) “In winter, when the frost is bitter, the Dog curls up, covering his body with his tail, shivers and thinks, “I cannot wait for summer to come! I will surely build a kennel, at least a small and rickety one!”As soon as summer comes, the Dog mellows in the sunshine, stretching his legs, his tail loose. Stretching and looking around, he says, “I would have to build a very large kennel. That would be a great deal of trouble! No need to bother. I can do without it!””2)“Once upon a time, there were two neighbors.A neighbor’s name was Kukolka, and the other’s was Kukolochka.Kukolka was very rich, and Kukolochka was very poor. Misfortune lived on his stove. It looked very much like an owl. Whatever he earned, she would either gulp or take to the rich man. Kukolochka grew angry, for Misfortune had taken away everything, and he did not have a bread crumb in his house. He took along his wife, a jointer, and a piece of a wooden board, and went to the woods. Seeing it, Misfortune cried after them, “Hey, where are you going?” “We are sick and tired of misfortune; we are going to the woods.”Misfortune laughed and said that she was going to arrive before they reached the forest. They reached a small river, put the board across it, crossed the river, and took the board off. Looking back, they saw Misfortune running after them, carrying a log on her shoulders. She reached the bank, threw the log across the river, crossed it, and caught up with them in the woods.Misfortune saw Kukolochka making wood wedges. She asked, “Why are you making wedges?” Kukolochka replied, “Can you see the hollow fir tree? I will hide from you in the hollow and batten the hole, for I am sick of living with you.” Misfortune laughed, “He, he. I will be the first to get into the fir tree and wait for you.”She was in the hollow in no time. Kukolochka grabbed a board, shut the hole, and nailed it down with the wedges. He and his wife returned to the house, leaving Misfortune in the hollow. They chanced to find a bag of money on their way and lived in abundance ever after. Kukolochka would come to the forest every once in a while, look at the hollow, and plug the wedges deeper to prevent Misfortune from escaping.Seeing it, Kukolka thought that his neighbor was hiding treasures in the fir tree. He came there and took the wedges out. Misfortune jumped out of the hollow and moved to Kukolka’s house.Kukolochka was now rich, and Kukolka became poor.”

By Siarhei Everyone should read this classic book of Polish fairy tales.This book was one the best books I have ever read!I thought these stories were clever, and they made me smile.There is always two sides to every story and somewhere in the middle is the truth.
