Arthur Acton, Dialta’s grandfather, was an art dealer, married to Hortense Mitchell, a Chicago heiress, but who came to dislike both art and her husband’s home in Florence. Dialta’s mother was born to Arthur Acton’s lifelong mistress, Ersilia. About the Author A Florentine, Dialta Lensi Orlandi, now Princess Alliata di Montereale and mother of five, has lived in Honolulu since 1999. In Italy she was the Editor in Chief of the ecological magazine Essere Secondo Natura. She has written, produced, acted and directed in films including Turtles, a poetic love story, and The Princess and the Rooster, on children's etiquette. Un Amore Splendido e Tormentato By Giorgio & Nella Gina Caldarone Dialta Alliata-Lensi Orlandi is a brilliant, gifted and effective writer who captures her grandmother Elsie's and Baron Acton's most intriguing and uplifting LOVE STORY. The tantalizing love affair between them takes place in Florence, Italy at Villa La Pietra in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. As a result of their unconditional love for each other, Dialta's grandmother Elsie became pregnant by Baron Acton, and her mother Liana was conceived. From that day forward the controversial legal saga of Baron Acton's dynasty versus New York University continues until the present time and is still ongoing.This novel was by far the most interesting, intriguing and mesmerizing love story we have ever read because the characters are true to life and REAL. Baron Acton fell instantly in love with Elsie for many reasons, she was beautiful, intelligent, compassionate, and had an independent spirit who absolutely adored the ARTS. In addition, their relationship was not only based on their true love for each other, but also because of their symbiotic and co-dependent bond that they had for each other.We were deeply moved by this Florentine drama when their lives started to fall apart, when Baron Acton marries Hortense and brings her to Villa La Pietra in Florence, Italy. There was a time of upheaval in Florence regarding political, social, and economic issues and obviously this played an important role why Baron Acton married Hortense. Although Elsie was devastated when Acton married Hortense, she created an environment of independence for herself which made her a survivalist in their relationship.Elsie's diaries had deep emotional and difficult issues as she embarks on a passionately physical affair before and after Baron Acton married Hortense. It is novel about discovering what TRUE LOVE really is and how complications of this romance haunt both Elsie and Baron Acton. They were one in heart however they were tormented souls in a bittersweet family saga filled with broken hearts and tragedies. Elsie's and Baron Acton's relationship survives because of their unorthodox love and dedication toward each other.We fell in love with Elsie's and Liana's characters because they were elegant and sophisticated women. Although there were lots of disappointments in their lives throughout this novel they survived their stunning accomplishments step by step. In addition, Elsie and Liana were extremely strong women and way beyond their times during the Florentine Era.We really enjoyed this captivating heartfelt LOVE STORY, and what is even more astounding is that we could really feel that Elsie's and Acton's LOVE without a doubt still exists TODAY.

"Now God Stand Up for Bastards" By Sierra Perez Well I have finally finished the book and what a great summer read....full of delicious, Florentine illicit birth secrets oozed out in suspenseful form and even a poetic turn of phrase now and then. And yes, there is all of the erotic sex suprisingly from a turn of the century Italian woman ahead of her time ...let's not forget that. How I wish Dialta had incorporated tiny, exquisite selections from Nonna Elsie's original diaries, di tempo in tempo, for those of us who can appreciate the text in Italian. And so glad we now have on the cover an artful picture of Liana, her love child, instead of only the small teaser on the back jacket of the book.In Shakespeare's "King Lear" there is a line from Edmond, one of Gloucester's sons, an illegitimate himself, who says,"Now God stand up for bastards," that kept interrupting the story and peppering the dialogue as I read..I found myself cheering for Dialta's Mother, Liana who had to undergo similar discrimination and prejudice because of her unsanctified birth, the mores of the times, and the decisions of Lord Arthur Acton, the famous art collecter and her blood father who never publicly acknowledged her lineage.I cried when Liana died. Why... because most of all the book is a testament to three generations of strong women who don't take no for an answer, keep the maternal faith and fire, and perservere against powerful, moneyed, corporate and judicial forces to victory and justice...Of course, for those of us living in the islands who now understand the connection between La Pietra of Honolulu and the original in Florence--it will send us on our own quest to Florence and a visit to the original La Pietra, the Renaiisance art star and secret home and witness to this forbidden and mysterious, illicit tale..

Secrets and Lies Shrouded in Love, Frolic, and Renaissance Art By MARTIN Being a lover of all things Florentine, this passionate tale of love, lust, and intrigue was mesmerizing in the best sense of the word. Sexy, insightful, provocative, intriguing...what a poignant glimpse of an era far different from today's world. And yet, Dialta Orlandi brilliantly bridges three successive generations beginning with the matriarchy of her nonna Elsie in a voice that is irresistible. The continuing lawsuit with NYU over the disposition of the grand estate is the icing on this bittersweet torta. I look forward to the next volume in this saga. Brava! I highly recommend this read!
