This is the story of how I got David Ruffin to include my song 'I Get Excited' on his solo 'So Soon We Change' album released on Warner Bros. Records in 1979. The name David Ruffin holds a special place in the history of Black or African American music, and American music. As the lead singer of the Motown group 'The Temptations' David sang lead on 'My Girl' which was the very first number one hit that the group had. Some of his other hits include:

• It’s Growing
• Since I Lost My Baby

My story centers on the time after David left The Temptations and began a solo career. Other personalities in the story include:

• Tony Green, Producer and Bass Player for Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Warren G and The Dramatics
• Duane Huff, Drummer for Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, George Clinton and Aretha Franklin
• Don Davis, Record Producer and founder of First Independence Bank, largest African American owned bank in Michigan

The story takes you from the beginning of my career as a Songwriter and Lyricist, through my high school friendship with Tony Green as he was starting his illustrious career as a Professional Bassist. I then take you through the bullet-like speed from the time my song was discovered to being recorded at United Sound Systems in Detroit, Michigan which was only 3 days! You will read about the great talents that I had the opportunity to record with including:

• Dennis Coffey
• Jerry Jones

Finally, we will head to the 20 Grand Ballroom where David sang my song at the release party when it was released as the second single from his 'So Soon We Change' album after the hit 'Break My Heart'.
