So maybe I was wrong about romance as a genre By Amazon Customer Growing up I couldn't help but roll my eyes when I someone reading what I considered to be "bodice rippers". Always on the cover there was some variation of Fabio and some helpless damsel swooning on his artistically enhanced muscular moobs as he stood heroically on a generic heroic backdrop - yawn. The plots were predictable, the pacing erratic, and the emotional depth was that of poorly made thimble. So I avoided this genre like it was some literature VD. And then, after a lot of arm twisting, I ended up reading "Foolish Wishes".Wow.Okay, yes, it was a romance novel but it didn't feel that way. A good book has a way of pulling you into the plot, into the theater of the mind. I found myself staying up late just to see how this would turn out. There characters were just so, you know, human! Foolish, vain, loving, prideful, lustful, just plain old folks. There were times when I found myself on Ruby's side, encouraging her but then I felt Jackson's angst as if it was my own. So now I am reexamining my viewpoint on the whole romance thing. Well, maybe this was just a fluke but damn it was a good fluke. 5 stars.

I was hooked right away. I wanted to pick it up and read as many pages as I could whenever I had time. I finished it within a week, a rare feat for me. It was a really good story with characters I cared about. I was actually sad when I turned the final page. I see myself reading it again at some future point because I enjoyed it so much and look forward to future offerings by this author.

It was the kind of thing that often is conflicted in the real world. I am also not a fan of the buppie crowd, but also enjoyed a little view of their world. Good read overall.
