Like most of the parents, the father is telling his daughters what is good and what is not good. Unlike most of the parents, he does not just simply tell them what to do and what not to do. Step by step, he is trying to guide them thinking and building up by themselves. The tough life lessons are written in a way easy to understand and pick up.This is a book from a father to his daughters, but not only to his daughters. The author shared his experience and stories in his childhood, during school, at work and as a dad. Most of them are also valuable to our adults. For example, “Realize How Lucky You Are”. A lot of people, including me, tend to forget or I should say do not realize it. I used to complain a lot and seldom appreciate. Actually, I found I am incredible lucky too after reading John’s words. I love the cooking part most, and totally agree that it is the skill “super useful and super easy to learn”. An excellent guidebook for transforming your thinking and emotions By David Mills “Rethink it!” is a superbly-written tool kit for anyone hoping to overcome problems of anger, depression, jealousy and other emotional maladies. It is written by Michael Cohen, who authored the bestseller “The Power of Accepting Yourself.” “Rethink it!” teaches the reader how to transform his or her thinking and behavior — and therefore how to transform dysfunctional emotions into healthy, rational emotions. This book is especially enjoyable and beneficial for the average, lay reader.There are several factors that I particularly like about this book. First, it is indeed practical. Michael Cohen goes out of his way to write in a clear and entertaining way. He frequently enumerates (1,2,3,4,…) the precise steps you need to take to surmount a specific psychological block or affliction. This might be a problem with dieting or smoking or drug abuse. He even covers such issues as fear of blushing, fear of embarrassment, panic attacks, and common phobias like agoraphobia (page 49). He also reveals his own techniques for relaxation and staying at peace with yourself — techniques which do not depend on any particular religious belief or affiliation. The book is applicable to literally anyone. Cohen reiterates the phrase "Rethink it!" throughout the text of the book to encourage the reader to reevaluate bad psychological habits and to fix them. He shows you exactly how to accomplish your behavioral and emotional goals.Yet another factor I loved about this book was Cohen’s explanations as to how and why we develop psychiatric issues to begin with. Cohen describes how today’s dysfunctional emotions may have been, at one point in human history, beneficial or even life-saving (page 22). But Cohen points out why today’s modern society no longer requires us to suffer death-like fears about what are, today, non-threatening situations, such as social disapproval. I must say that I found Cohen’s explanations much more plausible and satisfying than a lot of Freud’s wild and complicated speculation about the origin of human emotional suffering. But as Cohen points out here and elsewhere: the origin of your problem is not as important as the cure — a cure which this book provides to those willing to employ its suggestions.Page 85 begins a brief section on what Cohen calls “practicing mindfulness.” As in other parts of the book, Cohen details how to concentrate on the moment at hand and on your empirical surroundings, rather than focusing fruitlessly on vague anxieties about “dangers” that will never actually occur.I have never met Michael Cohen. But I know from roundabout observation that he is a man who definitely practices what he preaches. He is a kind, generous man of a peaceful, happy demeanor. By Lloyd G Sometimes the most useful tips in life come in the form of a simple message. This easy to read book delivers a simple message in a clear and easy to read way. Being positive is easier than it sounds and easy to say and hard to achieve. This book helps to narrow that gap in thinking. Well worth a read.

Makes light of problems by suggesting you should just give yourself positive self-talk and it will all go away By Sunshine on a Rainy Day SUMMARY: This book is broken down into three parts: 1) Be Your Own Best Friend, 2) Relax and Heal Negative Emotions and 3) Change your Behaviors. The first section talks about building your own self esteem through positive self thought and self talk. The second section deals with specific problems such as anxiety, depression, and jealousy and techniques that can be used to overcome them. The final sections deals with behavioral issues such as weight loss, smoking, and blushing.REVIEW: First, Cohen spends a good portion of this book explaining what the problems are in a classic psych textbook way. For example, under anxiety, he describes each type of possible anxiety you could have. I found this to be incongruent with the rest of this book. It felt too textbook-like for this simple guide.As a right-brained person, I have never had success with "think your problems away" type strategies. Has anyone, I wonder? Cohen's theory is that if you can look at your problem for what it is and turn your negative thinking into positive thinking, then it will be all good. For example: For anxiety, he suggests you write down times when you have had anxiety, write down your negative thoughts, look for a pattern, then rethink those negative thoughts into positive ones. He also suggests using the stop method when you go into panic by saying things like "stop this nonsense." "It is the catastrophic thoughts and feelings you are silencing, not yourself." I find this to be unhealthy behavior. A person should never separate himself from his own feelings. They are important and vital to the moment. The rest of his advice is to practice relaxation, eat well, exercise, and don't avoid your fears.I found this book to be over simple with problems and to make it seem like simply giving yourself positive self talk would make everything cheery and well. The book was short, but I felt like it needed a lot more explanation and examples of the techniques rather than the problems to be helpful to the every day reader.NOTE: I received a free e-reader copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This being her first novel, I must say it was a terrific start. I am a Donna Hill fan for life. In her first story we meet Tempest and Braxton. The two had once been lovers and was torn apart by deceit and lies. Tempest husband is not the man she thought she married, and when Braxton comes back to work on a project with her and David, things soon become clear about David and his lies. Tempest soon learns that the secrets she's kept from Braxton will be revealed sooner rather than later.. You will not be disappointed.

It wasn't mentioned but I take it, Tempest grandmother pulled thru the surgery. Amazing story and worth the read. Happy 25th anniversary t Donna !! Keep bringing hours of joy!

In so many books the romantic aspect brings it down and makes you want to stop reading, but here there was something special. The entire novel had so many things going on, I caught myself rereading it just to make sure I was on track.This entire book is filled with suspense and you will feel like you don't even know what is happening, in a good way. But, like all good novels, it managed to tie together and make the reader feel like they now know what happened the entire time.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. My new favorite series… By TFLReader I have pretty much been in love with Garvey Fields since the early pages of Book 1 in this series. That is quite a testament to the writing talent of author RA Chandler, who has set up a wonderful series that I hope will continue pretty much indefinitely. Fields is a sexy, smart and witty investigator who seems to take odd jobs that get him in much deeper water than intended each time. This and the many women he encounters is what makes these reads so much fun. In "The House Wins", Fields takes a job as a bodyguard that gets way out of hand and we get a wonderful mystery once again. I love that these are all stand alone novels that don't have cliffhangers. These are very well written stories and I can't wait for the next one.

"The House Wins" is the third installment in RA Chandler's Garvey Fields stories. Just like the others, this book is filled with action, suspense, mystery, and beautiful women. Fields takes what seems like a no-brainer job of being a bodyguard for a client he thought had dies a long time ago. But, things are never that easy for Garvey fields. Never. There's enough tough talk, wild action, and plot twists to keep fans of the most hard-boiled detective fiction glued to the pages. Great stuff!

More than a Book, an Act of Devotion By Thomas Johnson It is obvious that this book is not only an excellent book on the topic of the Morrigan, but also a work of devotion and love. This is the book I have been waiting for about the Morrigan. It's firmly rooted in the lore, history and archaeologic records of the peoples that honored Herself and uses those strong roots to bring life to a modern devotional practice centered on the Morrigan and the heroic ethos. The investigates the Morrigan in all of Her forms and aspects thoroughly in the first half of this dense tome, unraveling the threads of Her presence from the lore and modern scholarly sources. In the second half of the book she explores facets of religious and devotional practice that have historically been associated with the peoples of the Celtic world, examines how they might be have been connected to the Morrigan and other battle and sovereignty divinities, and most importantly, shares with us ways of bringing those practices into our lives. Valerie Herron's original artwork is beautiful and evocative, and brings the Great Queen to life in new and powerful ways. Overall, this book is more than a scholarly work and more than a book about devotional practice. The Book of the Great Queen is an act of devotion to the Morrigan from a priestess that has dedicated her life in service to the Great Queen.

Much More About the Morrighan By Benjamin If you're looking for an in-depth, A to Z book on the Morrighan and closely related topics, this is the one. From the first few pages, you'll see that Morpheus Ravenna expended a lot of energy exhaustively and meticulously researching this work. The list of sources cited at the back is longer than that found in some doctoral dissertations, and makes clear this was written with far more rigor than many pagan tomes which rely heavily on UPG. Yet her writing style is not pendantic; it's the kind of textbook you want to read even if it is not on the assigned reading list. Moreover, The Book of the Great Queen is a work geared toward those who actively worship the Morrighan in any or all of Her guises; it is not *merely* a historical book, but also a guidebook to spiritual practice. The book also features impressive artwork which nicely compliments the text without distracting from it.Highly recommended for anyone wanting to learn more about Celtic lore, and indispensable for any polytheist including the Morrighan in his or her practice.

In case anyone missed that, I said, "THE MORRIGHAN IS NOT FOR EVERYONE." There are lots of folks who really cannot handle her energy, and you can see it come out in their lives and personalities in weird, weird ways. So, be responsible.That said, if the Phantom Queen has called you to Her Mysteries, and if you have answered, this is an important book for you to read. Morpheus honors the Morrighan well with this work of detailed scholarship and poetic writing. Look in this book, and within your own heart, and find out for yourself how to engage this powerful Goddess.
