‘Absolutely blew me away! It is funny, jaw-droppingly shocking in parts and also had me in floods of tears. I would give a 100 stars if I could as this book is that outstanding… A truly wonderful book that I was very sad to finish.’ By the Letter Book Reviews

New term. New dramas. New friendships. And that’s just the parents…

After a year of country living, Rachel Young is finally getting into the swing of things. Her four kids are happy and content at the village school, and she’s managed to navigate the choppy (shark-infested) waters of the playground mafia. Or… so she thought. When playground mum Penelope Kensington moves herself and her kids into Rachel’s home, after discovering husband Rupert has been having an affair, Rachel knows she must ask them politely to leave. The problem is, Penelope never takes no for an answer. As Rachel tries to deal with Penelope, she also meets new school mum Melanie. Melanie is a breath of fresh air, but her arrival sends ripples of gossip through the playground. Melanie has a few secrets in her closet, and it seems she’s not the only one… Hilarious and entertaining, with characters you won't forget in a hurry, fans of Fiona Gibson, Kerry Fisher and Tracy Bloom will love this book. ‘I loved this book… I was so indignant for her I found myself telling my husband what Penelope was up to next.’ Bookworms and Shutterbugs ‘Full of drama, laughter from the beginning until the last page, twist, turns and the occasional bombshell. I knew I would like it but as I read on I began to love it and before I knew it I’d finished and believe me you go on an emotional roller coaster… I highly, highly recommend that you read this book as it is a fun, emotional, easy and light-hearted read… outstanding.’ Laura H Book Blog ‘Gives "mommy wars" a whole new meaning. The author perfectly describes the world of girl speak and frenemies… the ending left me wanting more.’ Kristi Reads ‘Fiendishly funny.’ Books for Avid Readers ‘Wow this is even better than the first one… a laugh a minute riot that is simply superb… This book was an absolute delight to read… turned me into a complete Christie Barlow convert.’ Rachel’s Random Reads ‘This is a funny, enjoyable book. It's very well written which makes it an easy read. I loved it.’ Janni B’s Books ‘A book which echoes the reality of the playground and vamps it up, making for a thoroughly enjoyable read.’ That Thing She Reads

Read what everyone is saying about Christie’s bestselling novel A Year in the Life of a Playground Mother:

'A hilarious observation of playground politics. As funny as it is true…' Sue Watson ‘Well-observed, highly-relatable and wickedly-funny.’ Cathy Bramley ‘A hilarious account, cleverly witty all the way through, a very entertaining read.’ Kim the Book Worm ‘Full of laughs and hilarious one-liners.’ JB Johnston Book Tours ‘A hilarious entertaining read.’ Chicklit Chickadees Book Tour ‘What a tonic, this book should be available on prescription! Witty and incisive.' Matt Franks - comedian ‘The writing flowed beautifully and guided me from one situation to another seamlessly.’ Angela Marsons

I have children and at times I’ve been the mom arriving at the school an hour in advance so that I may skip the turmoil and just pick up my dang kid. These books, while much more turmoil than I’ve experienced are absolutely hilarious and I’m sure a reality in someone’s life other than Rachel. One of the things I loved about these books was the ‘playground mafia’ character line up. Holy Moses! Either Christie has met these people in real life or she’s amazing at making up the most crazy of characters. It’s like reading a season of ‘The Real Housewives whatever’ if they were standing in the schoolyard with their kiddos.I gave these books 4 Stars.I laughed, pretty much nonstop and I couldn’t wait to move onto the second when the first was finished. That is one of my favorite things… to read a series to completion without having to wait for the next to come out. LOLGossip… ha! Obviously with a playground mafia gossip is a ongoing problem, but it makes for laughs and more. I like seeing Melanie added to the second book, I liked her but of course with a new character comes new turmoil! What I Loved:-Christie is hilarious! I loved reading the characters storylines!-Her nicknames for the other mothers! Ha!-I loved that this book is light-hearted, funny and a fast read. What I didn’t Love:-That I’m sure these characters exist in the world somewhere! lolWhat I thought of the Cover:-Loved the covers! Very Chick Lit, very in tune with the stories. I’d pick them up in a bookstore in a second!Did I add a Book Boyfriend to my List?-Nope… but I added a whole circle of women I never want on my friend list! lolfor a full review please check out http://hellochicklit.com

I immensely enjoyed reading Rachel Young story and as of September 11 By The Nest of Books Review Few weeks ago I had been invited to review the #1 Amazon bestseller A Year in the Life of a Playground Mother. I immensely enjoyed reading Rachel Young story and as of September 11, 2015, we can further indulge yourselves in the dramas of the playground mothers in the sequel called The Misadventure of a Playground Mother. The first installment was very successful, but I must say I loved the second even better. It is like watching your most favourite TV show you can wait to get back to it and see what else will happen. There is a lot going on in Rachel's life. Never a dull moment in her village life. The Misadventure of a Playground mother takes off where the first book finished - the memorable gate-crashing of The Youngs New's Years Eve party.Rachel and her family are finally settling into the village life. Everyone is content and happy until Penelope Kensington decides to move into to Rachel's house. And as usual Rachel's so-called and extremely self-centered friend makes everything very complicated.Rachel is one of those down-to-earth people; she is there for everyone! Rachel is one of my favourite fictional characters, and I would love her to be my friend. She is firm in her beliefs, loves her adorable family and won't stand for any bullying and venomous remarks from some of the rather hypocritical playground mothers. There are two new characters in this sequel, the not so new "newcomer" Melanie and her daughter Dotty and Sue- the new love interested in Rupert Kensington's life. There seemed to be an instant bond between Rachel, Melanie and Sue and I like watching their friendship develop, progress and become very strong and reliable. Melanie and Sue prove themselves to be a lovely and genuine people. That is what real friendships are all about after all. Aside from the newcomers we also have the promiscuous BB and her gang of a rather vicious playground mothers, Farrier ( Melanie's long lost love) and Ruper Kensington, who also played important roles in making this book fabulous. Then there is Penelope Kensington and her somewhat skewed look at life and friendships. Penelope senseless drama is a constant throughout the story. Although Penelope is very selfish, arrogant and very hypocritical person and her requests, and crazy ideas are really out of this world, I still enjoyed her role very much. Rachel still finds herself being part of most of Penelopes misadventures and there are certainly plenty of those from The Ditch and Date Speed Dating evening, free holidaying in the Young family Spanish villa to the Scratch Card Fiasco.Poor Rachel's sensible New Years resolution are thrown out of the window even before she had the chance to implement them.I adored Matt, Rachel husband, he is supportive, hard-working, very reliable and funny. Surely the HUSBAND of the Year.Throughout Rachel's story, we learn about a couple of disturbing events, and I must say Christie managed to deliver them in a very sensitive and caring way. I won't go into too many details as it would spoil the whole story for any reader, but I'll just say Rachel is a wonderful human being, fantastic mother and a real role model for her four children and anyone else.Christie Barlow yet again delivers a very memorable, relatable, uplifting, hilarious and all around excellent book. I am already very excited about her next story.I highly recommend this book. Go and grab yourself a copy of The Misadventure of a Playground Mother

By sarah hardy After reading A Year In The Life of a Playground Mother which is the first in the series I was very much looking forward to reading this one.The Misadventures of a Playground Mother basically starts off from where the first book ends. The author does well to give you enough background if you haven't read A Year In The Life of a Playground Mother but as its a great book I would recommend reading them both.I really enjoyed the first book and it got a big 5 stars from me, the only problem I had to face after reading this one was how many stars do I give a book which more than excelled the first one? The Misadventures of a Playground Mother absolutely blew me away! It is funny, jaw droppingly shocking in parts and also had me in floods of tears. I would give a 100 stars if I could as this book is that outstanding.Rachel is back and unfortunately is still very much stuck with her BF Penelope. I have to say what poor Rachel and her husband Matt have to go through with Penelope around is at times unbelievable. My god I wanted to give that women a really good slap on behalf of Rachel and Matt. She truly cares about no one else but herself and I thought she was bad enough in the first book but boy does she even stoop lower in this one.Thankfully though Rachel meets two new friends in this book, Melanie and Sue. The friendship between these three women especially after Penelope is just wonderful to read.I can't really say anymore about this book as it would spoil it for other readers but I will say that if you loved the first book and even if you have not read the first, you really need to read The Misadventures of a Playground Mother. It truly is an outstanding read that will have you going through a whole array of emotions.A truly wonderful book that I was very sad to finish. Many thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for an Advanced Readers Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
