About the Author RA Chandler is a mystery novelist that has created the African American private detective Garvey Fields. He has written and published short stories in the past but this is his first series of books at novel length. RA has a degree in English Literature, been a teacher for a short time and wants to write and publish books until his last breath. He loves to read Walter Mosley, Robert B. Partially nonsensical, partially just bad?My goodness, the drivel that this book writes is full of not only grammatical errors, but it also has some severe plot malfunctions and is generally terrible at the way one point is supposedly related to another. Some of this stuff would never happen, like the ridiculous part about the cops wanting to shoot up the character "but didnt" for a previous dui charge. But hey, duex ex machina right?A bad book combined with bad formatting--not even a go-to toc. Dont waste your time. Do you see all these reviews without "verified purchase" next to them? Why would anyone review a book they havent read?

Great read By Diana Martin This is a high quality mystery that covers all the bases one would expect in this genre: deliciously complicated plot, a anti-hero who behaves with reckless abandon, social issues sneaked in via tongue in cheek comments, all of which makes for a real page turner. The main character has depth but this story is more about how RA Chandler masterfully puts together a plot driven narrative. RA Chandler has a way of transporting the reader to the pressure and danger in a scene without making it overwhelming.The novel undoubtedly has a little of silliness about it with Garvey Fields being able seduce any woman he wants, but that nonsense adds to the charm of the novel.I recommend this book as a nice read.

Excellent mystery and fun character By TFLReader I love a good mystery series with a repeating character - one that I can get to know through a series of books and look forward to visiting again like a good friend. Author RA Chandler has set up a great one here with Garvey Fields and I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series. "The Waiting Game" is the story of a mystery that begins in a hotel, as Fields takes a security job there for money and to get close to a hot woman. He probably gets more than he bargained for and this is where the fun begins. There is mystery, suspense, action, and much more in this exciting story that pulled me in from the first pages. I am devouring his other books in this series to continue the adventure.
